Assistant Cook
Location: Eccles, Manchester, M30
Salary: £14.71 per hour
Hours: 32 hours per week, Monday to Friday
Working Pattern: Monday - Friday 7.15am - 1.45pm
Dalkia UK is looking for a reliable and hardworking Assistant Cook to join our catering team at a school site in the Eccles area.
Working under the direction of the Catering Manager, you will support the preparation and delivery of meals while helping to maintain a clean, safe and welcoming dining environment for pupils and staff.
This role would suit someone who takes pride in maintaining high standards, works well as part of a team and is comfortable working in a busy school kitchen.
Job Purpose

Prepare the dining and service areas to an appropriate standard.

Serve food and beverages at the specified times and in appropriate quantities.

Assist in the preparation of food when required.

Weighing of products in preparation for the next day and being proactive in preparing food for the next day.

Assist with the moving and setting up of the dining furniture.
-
Ensure that tables, chairs, trolleys and floors are kept clean and tidy at all times.

Clean all areas of the servery, salad bar, beverage machines and preparation areas in accordance with appropriate cleaning schedules.

Assist with the washing up of cutlery, crockery, trays and light equipment.

Operate electronic point of sale, and the reconciliation of tills.

Cashier duties in addition to collect till register and to maintain the tills in clean condition and ensure it is returned to storage.

Clean the kitchen and dining room as required.

Comply with the Health and Safety at work act.

To be trained in correct use of all equipment.

Take regular temperature of food and record on appropriate paperwork.

Use Microsoft Office package to produce the weekly sales analysis.

Will ensure that the kitchen has stock or can access the necessary stock ingredients to offer suitable alternatives for people with allergies, intolerances, and coeliac disease.

Will ensure that allergen information is provided on all food/listed in the list of ‘Common Food Allergens'. This information will be supplied in Allergy Data Sheets. This also applies to food pre- packed such as wraps, sandwiches and packed lunches.

Deliver training/toolbox talks to the catering team.

In the absence of catering manager, the assistant cook must take over the manager role.

Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge and Skills

Essential

COSHH Training.

Understand safe working practices and health and safety legislation.

Knowledge of food safety regulations/HACCP.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Excellent customer service skills.

Ability to work on his/her own

Well-organised and capable of prioritising own workload.

Proficient in Microsoft Office packages.

Flexible approach to working as part of a team.

Previous experience of working in a catering environment.
Desirable

Experience of managing a team.

NVQ level 2 in catering, or equivalent catering qualification.

Food hygiene certificate.
