Position: Production Supervisor
Location: Wombwell, Barnsley S73 0BB
Pay Rate: £18.14 per hour
Shift Pattern: Sunday to Wednesday, 19:00–05:00
Hours: Night Shift
About the Role:
We are looking for an experienced Production Supervisor to join our food manufacturing team.
You will be responsible for supporting the day-to-day running of the production department, leading Production Operatives and ensuring that production runs safely, efficiently and to the required quality standards.
Working closely with the Production Area Leader, you will help manage performance, production targets, staffing levels, quality, health and safety, hygiene and employee-related matters.
This is a hands-on supervisory role, ideal for someone with previous experience in a food manufacturing environment who is confident leading a team and making decisions in a fast-paced setting.
Key Responsibilities:
As a Production Supervisor, your responsibilities will include:
- Supervising and supporting Production Operatives throughout the shift
- Promoting a strong health and safety culture within the department
- Ensuring all health and safety checks and pre-start checks are completed
- Reporting and investigating hazards, near misses and accidents, ensuring appropriate corrective actions are taken
- Ensuring GMP, hygiene, food safety and quality standards are maintained at all times
- Taking ownership of product quality throughout the shift
- Planning and coordinating production activities on an hourly and daily basis
- Managing labour levels in line with production volumes and requirements
- Monitoring production performance, machine downtime and operational efficiency
- Investigating issues affecting production and working with relevant departments to find long-term solutions
- Ensuring hourly and daily production targets are achieved and accurately recorded
- Producing daily reports outlining performance, issues and actions taken
- Monitoring material usage and investigating any variances
- Ensuring production paperwork is completed accurately and on time
- Carrying out effective handovers between shifts, including any incidents, outstanding actions or concerns
- Conducting Return to Work interviews and escalating any concerns where necessary
- Managing and authorising employee holidays in line with company procedures
- Completing weekly new starter assessments and communicating any concerns to HR
- Supporting disciplinary processes, including conducting meetings up to Stage 2 with support from HR and the Area Leader
- Responding to operational issues and carrying out other reasonable duties as required
What We're Looking For:
To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:
- At least 12 months' previous supervisory or stand-in supervisory experience
- Previous experience working within the food manufacturing industry
- Experience within chilled food manufacturing would be advantageous
- Strong leadership and people management skills
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Good problem-solving and decision-making abilities
- The ability to prioritise tasks and work effectively under pressure
- A good understanding of production processes and operational performance
- Experience with Health & Safety, ideally supported by a Level 2 qualification
- Food Safety Level 2
- HACCP Level 2
