Citizens Advice Lancashire West is looking for a Financial Resilience Adviser to deliver one-to-one financial capability support to residents of Wyre Council who are experiencing financial hardship or at risk of financial exclusion.
This is an exciting opportunity to be a part of a project empowering people with the knowledge, skills and confidence to take control of their finances and reduce reliance on crisis support.
Based within Wyre, you will provide appointment-based, tailored support to residents referred through the Council or via Citizens Advice.
Responsibilities:
- Deliver one to one, appointment based financial resilience sessions tailored to individuals needs. Sessions will cover:
- Income and expenditure, and maximising income
- Preparing a budget and how to reduce expenditure
- Bank accounts and savings
- Avoiding high-cost credit
- Recognising and avoiding scams
- Work collaboratively with internal teams and external partners to ensure a “no wrong door“ approach to support
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date case records using internal case management systems
- Build and maintain strong referral pathways to ensure residents access the most appropriate services
- Ensure that advice is accurate, compliant and meets regulatory standards
- Contribute to reporting requirements including:
- Client demographics
- Financial outcomes achieved
- Case studies and impact statements
- Wider outcomes, including health and wellbeing improvements
- Keep up to date with legislation, policies and procedures and undertake appropriate training
- Attend relevant internal and external meetings as agreed with the line manager
- Carry out any other tasks that may be within the scope of the post to ensure the effective delivery and development of the service
- Assist with CALW research and campaigns work by providing information about client issues, and alert clients of campaigns where appropriate
Person Specification
- Experienced in providing advice or support in areas such as income maximisation, debt, benefits, or financial capability
- Ability to commit to and work with the aims, principles and policies of the Citizens Advice service
- A strong communicator, able to explain complex information clearly and empathetically
- Ability to work on clearly defined targets. Ability to be highly organised. Self motivated.
- Skilled in working with vulnerable individuals in a supportive, non-judgemental way
- Organised, with the ability to manage a varied caseload
- Committed to delivering high-quality, accurate advice
- Good numeracy skills with the proven ability to carry out efficient calculations and prepare budgets for clients
- The ability to prioritise tasks, to identify and work to deadlines and to manage time effectively under own initiative
- Demonstrate an understanding of policy changes and trends, and their implications for clients and service provision
- An understanding of and commitment to Equal Opportunities
- Experience of using IT systems
- A commitment to continuous professional development, including a willingness to develop knowledge and skills
Desirable (but not essential):
- Knowledge of FCA-regulated debt advice
- Familiarity with case management systems
