About the Home
We are opening a new specialist children’s home supporting young people aged 5–17 with mild to moderate learning disabilities, Autism, ADHD and communication needs. We provide nurturing, structured and low-arousal care using Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) and consistent routines.
Purpose of the Role
To provide safe, high-quality, child-centred care, supporting children’s emotional, social, behavioural and developmental needs. You will help create a safe, stable and nurturing environment where every child can develop and achieve positive outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day care in line with individual care plans and Behaviour Support Plans.
- Support children with daily living skills, independence and routines.
- Build positive and trusting relationships.
- Support communication, including non-verbal communication.
- Follow safeguarding procedures and report concerns immediately.
- Use PBS and low-arousal approaches to support behaviour.
- Support education, activities, hobbies and community access.
- Support health appointments and medication following appropriate training.
- Maintain accurate daily records, incident reports and care documentation.
- Work effectively with colleagues, families, schools and other professionals.
Working Requirements
The role requires flexibility and includes sleep-in shifts, waking nights, weekends and bank holidays.
Essential Requirements
- Caring, patient, reliable and resilient.
- Experience working with children or young people.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Commitment to safeguarding.
- Ability to remain calm and manage challenging behaviour.
- Must be aged 21 or over.
- Valid UK driving licence.
- Must have the right to work in the UK without sponsorship or restrictions.
Desirable
Experience in children’s residential care, learning disabilities, Autism, ADHD, PBS, low-arousal approaches, Makaton or PECS. Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare or equivalent is desirable.
Training & Development
Full training will be provided, including mandatory and specialist training. Staff will receive regular supervision, mentoring, career development opportunities and support to gain recognised qualifications in residential childcare.
DBS & Safer Recruitment
An enhanced DBS check, satisfactory references and background checks are required as part of our safer recruitment process. The cost of the DBS will not be covered by the company.
