About Tool Mix
Tool Mix Ltd is a growing retail and e-commerce business based in Knaresborough. As the business continues to expand, we are looking for an experienced and organised Finance & Operations Manager to join our team and take ownership of the day-to-day finance function.
This is a stand-alone role, with the majority of the position focused on finance management, bookkeeping, reporting and financial controls, alongside some involvement in the wider day-to-day operations of the business.
It would suit someone who is confident managing a company's finances independently, enjoys taking ownership of their role and is comfortable working within a busy, growing retail and e-commerce environment.
The Role
You will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the company's finance function, ensuring our accounts are accurate, up to date and well controlled.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Managing the day-to-day finance function using Xero
- Maintaining accurate bookkeeping and financial records
- Bank and credit card reconciliations
- Managing accounts payable and accounts receivable
- Supplier payments and customer account management
- VAT preparation and supporting VAT returns
- Monitoring cash flow and company finances
- Producing regular management information and financial reports for the directors
- Managing and reconciling online sales and payment platforms
- Supporting payroll and other regular finance processes
- Liaising with external accountants and providing information for year-end accounts
- Reviewing financial processes and implementing improvements where appropriate
- Ensuring good financial controls are maintained as the business grows
- Assisting the directors with budgeting, forecasting and financial decision-making
- Supporting general business operations and helping to improve internal systems and processes
- Working closely with the wider team to ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the business
About You
We are looking for someone who is experienced, dependable and confident working independently.
You will ideally have:
- Strong previous experience in a finance management, senior bookkeeping or similar role
- Good working knowledge of Xero – essential
- Experience managing a finance function with minimal supervision
- Strong bookkeeping and reconciliation skills
- A good understanding of VAT and general business accounting
- Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
- Confidence producing and explaining financial information to management
- Good Excel skills
- The ability to identify problems and improve processes
- A practical, hands-on approach and willingness to get involved in the wider business
Experience within retail or e-commerce would be particularly beneficial.
Experience using Shopify or similar e-commerce platforms, and dealing with online payment providers and sales channels, would also be highly advantageous.
Formal accountancy qualifications are welcomed but relevant hands-on experience and a strong working knowledge of finance are equally important to us.
What We Offer
- Salary from £35,000 per annum, dependent on experience

- Monday to Friday, 8:00am–4:30pm
