Capstan Lathe Operator – Fastener Manufacturing

Rapid Industrial Fasteners is a well-established UK manufacturer of precision fasteners, supplying customers across a wide range of engineering industries. Due to continued growth, we are looking for an experienced Capstan Lathe Operator to join our production team.
This is a hands-on role for someone with proven experience in the manufacture of fasteners who can work independently while maintaining the highest standards of quality and productivity.
The Role
You will be responsible for the manufacture of a variety of threaded fasteners, ensuring parts are produced accurately, efficiently, and to customer specifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Setting and operating capstan lathes.
- Manufacturing bolts, screws, studs, pins, and other precision fasteners.
- Reading and working from engineering drawings.
- Using measuring equipment including micrometers, verniers, and thread gauges.
- Producing components to tight tolerances.
- Carrying out in-process quality inspections.
- Maintaining high standards of housekeeping and machine maintenance.
- Working safely and following company quality procedures.
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience manufacturing fasteners is essential.
- Proven experience operating capstan lathes.
- Good understanding of engineering drawings and tolerances.
- Experience using precision measuring equipment.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality components.
- Good time management and a positive work ethic.
Desirable
- Experience producing both standard and special fasteners.
- Knowledge of various engineering materials including carbon steel, stainless steel, and alloy steels.
- Experience working within an ISO 9001 manufacturing environment.
