Deputy Manager – Residential Care Home
Purpose of the Role
The Deputy Manager supports the Registered Manager in the effective day‑to‑day running of the residential care home, ensuring high‑quality, person‑centred care, regulatory compliance, and smooth operational delivery. The role provides leadership to care, domestic, and ancillary teams, acting as a key decision‑maker in the absence of the Manager.
Key Responsibilities
Care Quality & Compliance
- Support the Registered Manager in maintaining full compliance with CQC regulations, Health & Social Care Act 2008, and all relevant legislation.
- Ensure care plans, risk assessments, and documentation are accurate, up to date, and reflective of residents’ needs.
- Lead on audits (medication, care plans, infection control, health & safety) and implement improvement actions.
- Promote a culture of safeguarding, ensuring concerns are reported, recorded, and escalated appropriately.
- Oversee safe medication management, including MAR reviews, competency checks, and error investigations.
Leadership & Staff Management
- Provide daily supervision, guidance, and support to care assistants, senior carers, domestic staff, and kitchen teams.
- Lead shifts, allocate duties, and ensure safe staffing levels in line with dependency needs.
- Conduct staff supervisions, appraisals, competency assessments, and return‑to‑work meetings.
- Support recruitment, onboarding, and training of new staff.
- Model professional behaviour, promoting teamwork, accountability, and high standards of practice.
Operational Management
- Assist with rota planning, absence management, and ensuring adequate cover across all departments.
- Oversee daily operational tasks including housekeeping, catering, laundry, and environmental safety.
- Ensure the home environment is clean, safe, welcoming, and compliant with infection prevention standards.
- Respond to incidents, accidents, and emergencies, completing reports and implementing corrective actions.
- Support the Manager with policy implementation, quality improvement plans, and service development.
Resident Experience & Family Engagement
- Build positive relationships with residents, families, and external professionals.
- Support residents’ wellbeing through personalised care, meaningful activities, and advocacy.
- Handle concerns or complaints professionally, ensuring timely resolution and communication.
- Promote dignity, independence, and choice in all aspects of care.
Administration & Reporting
- Maintain accurate records, logs, and reports in line with regulatory and organisational requirements.
- Assist with audits, inspections, and evidence gathering for CQC and local authority reviews.
- Support financial processes such as petty cash, stock control, and invoicing (if delegated).
- Ensure confidentiality and GDPR compliance at all times.
Requirements
- NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care (Level 4 or 5 desirable).
- Experience in a senior care role within a residential or nursing home.
- Strong understanding of CQC standards, safeguarding, and person‑centred care.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
- Ability to work flexibly, including evenings, weekends, and on‑call duties.

Pay: £32,500.00-£34,000.00 per year
