We are seeking an experienced and motivated General Business Manager to support the continued success and development of our setting.
About Pre-School Committee:
Langtoft Pre-School is governed by a volunteer parent-led Committee, which provides strategic oversight and ensures the setting operates effectively, safely and in line with statutory, financial and governance requirements.
The day-to-day running of the Pre-School is delegated to the General Business Manager, who works closely with the Committee to support the ongoing development and sustainability of the setting. The Committee is responsible for:
· Providing strategic direction and supporting the vision and objectives of the Pre-School.
· Ensuring compliance with EYFS, safeguarding, Ofsted and charity requirements.
· Overseeing financial management, budgets and long-term sustainability.
· Supporting and challenging the General Business Manager through effective governance and decision-making.
· Approving policies, monitoring performance and supporting parental engagement and fundraising activities.
The Committee and General Business Manager meet regularly to review progress, discuss key matters and ensure the continued success of Langtoft Pre-School.
The Role:
The Pre-School General Business Manager will be responsible for the effective leadership and management of Langtoft Pre-School, ensuring children receive outstanding care and education while maintaining strong business and operational systems.
The successful candidate will provide leadership to the staff team, oversee the quality of teaching and learning, manage financial and administrative processes, ensure statutory compliance and work closely with the Committee to secure the long-term sustainability of the setting.
This role requires someone who is passionate about early years, confident leading a team and able to balance the educational, operational and business needs of the Pre-School.
This position will be a minimum of 20 hours per week (with flexibility to meet the needs of the setting).
The General Business Manager will be responsible to the Pre-School Committee and responsible for the leadership and management of Pre-School staff, early years provision, administration, finance, compliance and day-to-day operations.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
Early Years Leadership and Quality:
· Lead and manage the delivery of high-quality early years education and care in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), Ofsted requirements and current best practice.
· Monitor, evaluate and continuously improve the quality of teaching, learning and children's experiences.
· Maintain and develop an improvement plan to support the setting in achieving and maintaining a minimum Good Ofsted judgement.
· Ensure children's individual needs are supported through effective observation, assessment, planning and progress monitoring.
· Oversee the key person system and ensure children receive consistent support and care.
· Support the SENCo and staff team to provide appropriate support for children with additional needs.
· Promote a strong safeguarding culture and ensure all child protection and welfare responsibilities are managed effectively.
Staff Leadership and Development:
· Lead, motivate and support the Pre-School team to create a positive and professional working environment.
· Manage recruitment, induction, probation, supervision, appraisals and ongoing staff development.
· Ensure staff are appropriately deployed and that staffing levels meet EYFS requirements.
· Support staff training, professional development and continuous improvement.
· Maintain accurate records relating to staff qualifications, DBS checks, suitability checks and training.
Finance and Business Management:
· Oversee the day-to-day financial management and administration of the setting.
· Work closely with the Committee, Treasurer and Accountant to monitor budgets, income and expenditure.
· Manage financial processes including: Fee invoicing and collection, Supplier payments, Petty cash, Financial records, Budget monitoring, Income tracking
· Prepare financial reports and information for Committee meetings.
· Manage Early Years Education Funding claims and ensure all documentation is accurate and submitted on time.
· Support the long-term financial sustainability and development of the Pre-School.
Administration, Compliance and Governance
· Manage admissions, waiting lists, registration processes and new starter arrangements.
· Maintain accurate and confidential records in line with GDPR requirements.
· Ensure policies, procedures and records are maintained in accordance with legislation and EYFS requirements.
· Maintain compliance records including safeguarding, health and safety, risk assessments and staff documentation.
· Liaise with Ofsted, Lincolnshire County Council, South Kesteven District Council, Charity Commission and other external agencies as required.
· Support the Pre-School Committee in meeting governance and regulatory responsibilities.
Operations and Community
· Ensure the Pre-School environment is safe, welcoming and well maintained.
· Manage resources, facilities and operational requirements.
· Coordinate pavilion bookings, administration and invoicing.
· Maintain positive relationships with children, families, staff and external partners.
· Support the growth, reputation and sustainability of Langtoft Pre-School.
· Attend Committee meetings, AGM and other meetings as required.
· Undertake any other reasonable duties to support the effective running of the setting.
Requirements / Person Specification:
Essential:
· Minimum Level 3 Early Years qualification or equivalent.
· Significant experience working within an early years setting.
· Experience of leading, supervising or managing staff.
· Strong knowledge of the EYFS, safeguarding and early years legislation.
· Understanding of Ofsted requirements and quality improvement.
· Strong organisational and administrative skills.
· Experience managing budgets, financial processes or business administration.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
· Ability to build positive relationships with children, families, staff, Committee members and external agencies.
· Ability to work independently, prioritise workload and manage competing demands.
· Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
· Understanding of GDPR and confidentiality requirements.
Desirable
· Level 4 or above Early Years qualification.
· Designated Safeguarding Lead qualification.
· SENCo training.
· Paediatric First Aid qualification.
· Experience working within a committee-led, charity or community organisation.
· Experience with Early Years funding systems.
· Experience using financial management or accounting systems.
· Experience leading change, improvement planning or organisational development.
