Temporary Forklift Driver
Location: Royston, Hertfordshire
Hours: Monday to Friday, 07:30–16:30
Contract: Initial 3-month contract, with a strong possibility of becoming permanent
Overtime: Available, including weekends
About the Role
Rand Logistics Group Ltd is looking for a reliable and motivated Forklift Driver to join our busy and growing operation.
The position will initially be offered on a 3-month contract, with a strong possibility of becoming permanent for the right person, subject to attitude, performance and continued workload.
The role will primarily involve handling stone products stored in crates and packs, from initial container unloading through to storage and final dispatch.
This is a busy, hands-on position that requires someone who is organised, safety-conscious and comfortable working in a fast-paced yard environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Unloading shipping containers using a counterbalance forklift and container loading ramp.
- Safely handling stone crates, packs and other materials.
- Stowing products efficiently and safely within the yard and storage areas.
- Reloading products onto HGVs and other vehicles for customer deliveries.
- Completing collection notes and ensuring all paperwork is accurate.
- Checking products and quantities during loading and unloading.
- Planning and organising yard space to maximise available storage capacity.
- Learning and identifying a large range of different stone products.
- Maintaining a clean, safe and organised working environment.
- General housekeeping and yard duties.
- Carrying out daily forklift checks and reporting any defects.
- Working closely with the office, drivers and other members of the operations team.
- Assisting with other operational duties as required.
Experience & Requirements
The successful candidate will ideally:
- Have previous experience operating a counterbalance forklift – this is essential.
- Hold a valid counterbalance forklift licence; however, this is preferred rather than essential, as training and certification can be provided to an experienced operator.
- Have previous experience working in a yard, warehouse or similar environment.
- Be confident handling heavy and potentially high-value materials.
- Have good organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Be capable of completing basic paperwork accurately.
- Be able to learn a large and varied product range quickly.
- Work well under pressure during busy periods.
- Have a positive, flexible and hands-on attitude.
- Be reliable, punctual and able to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Take pride in keeping the yard organised, clean and safe.
Experience unloading containers or handling stone, building materials or similar products would be advantageous but is not essential.

Overtime is available outside normal working hours and at weekends and will be paid in addition to your standard hourly rate.
