At Laine Theatre Arts, the Three-Year Year Course Lead is responsible for the operational leadership and day-to-day management of the Level 6 Diploma in Professional Musical Theatre, validated by Trinity College London, and the BA (Hons) Musical Theatre programme, validated by the University of Portsmouth. Working within the academic framework established by the Director of Courses, the role ensures the effective organisation, delivery and continuous development of both programmes.
The Three-Year Course Lead oversees the day-to-day running of the curriculum, coordinating teaching, timetabling, assessment, student progression and academic operations to ensure an outstanding student experience. The role provides leadership to Heads of Department and teaching staff, promotes collaborative working across academic disciplines and supports the delivery of high-quality teaching and learning.
Working closely with the Director of Courses, validating partners, external examiners and professional services teams, the Three-Year Course Lead contributes to the maintenance of academic standards, quality assurance and the continuous enhancement of programme delivery within a dynamic performing arts environment.
Key Responsibilities
Programme Leadership
- Lead the operational management and day-to-day delivery of the Level 6 Diploma in Professional Musical Theatre (validated by Trinity College London) and the BA (Hons) Musical Theatre programme (validated by the University of Portsmouth), delivered as one integrated course.
- Implement the academic and operational framework established by the Director of Courses.
- Oversee the organisation and smooth day-to-day running of all Musical Theatre programmes.
- Ensure programmes are delivered effectively in accordance with College policies and validating partner requirements.
- Support the continuous development and enhancement of programme delivery.
Academic Operations
- Oversee course organisation, timetabling and teaching delivery.
- Coordinate assessment scheduling and administration across all year groups.
- Ensure assessment processes are delivered effectively and in accordance with institutional regulations.
- Support the implementation of academic policies, operational plans and annual academic calendars.
- Work closely with academic and professional services teams to ensure the effective delivery of programmes.
Leadership and Staff Management
- Line manage Heads of Department (disciplinary leads), providing leadership, guidance and support.
- Supervise and support teaching staff to ensure the consistent delivery of the curriculum.
- Promote effective communication and collaborative working across academic departments.
- Support staff development and encourage the sharing of best practice.
- Contribute to a positive, inclusive and high-performing academic culture.
Student Experience
- Monitor student progress, attendance and engagement throughout the academic year.
- Work with Heads of Department to identify and address academic or pastoral concerns.
- Act as the principal operational point of contact for students.
- Oversee the student journey from induction through to graduation.
- Support the delivery of an organised, engaging and professionally managed student experience.
Quality Assurance and Compliance
- Support the implementation of quality assurance processes across both programmes.
- Contribute to the maintenance of academic standards and regulatory compliance.
- Liaise with validating partners, external examiners and internal departments.
- Support programme reviews, audits and quality enhancement activities.
- Ensure programme delivery complies with College policies and awarding body requirements.
Planning and Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve operational effectiveness and programme delivery.
- Support the development and implementation of new initiatives to enhance the student experience.
- Contribute to strategic planning and curriculum development alongside the Director of Courses.
- Produce reports and operational information as required.
- Support College-wide academic projects and initiatives.
General Duties
- Represent the College professionally with students, staff, validating partners and external stakeholders.
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with GDPR requirements.
- Keep up to date with developments in Higher Education, Musical Theatre training and academic quality assurance.
- Attend meetings, training and College events as required.
- Undertake any other duties reasonably required within the scope of the role.
