HS2, Britain’s new high-speed railway is at peak construction. Balfour Beatty VINCI is HS2’s construction partner in the Midlands, responsible for delivering 90km of the route, from Long Itchington in Warwickshire to the centre of Birmingham and on to Handsacre in Staffordshire.

Current Opportunity: MEP Interface Engineer
Location: Based in Birmingham - the Central Region runs from the east of Birmingham into the city centre, comprising Sublot Delta, 1B, 4 and 5S. More than 50% of the structures within IPT Area North are located in the Central Region. This region, which covers a complex urban environment, also includes the 3.5 mile twin bore Bromford Tunnel. It also includes Interchange Station, as well as crossing three major highways (A45, M6 and M42).
Key Accountabilities:
Interface Management
- Establish and maintain the project interface management process.
- Identify, define, and track interfaces between MEP systems, disciplines, contractors, suppliers, and stakeholders.
- Develop and maintain interface registers, trackers, and action logs.
- Coordinate interface resolution activities across project teams.
- Ensure interface risks and dependencies are identified and effectively managed.
Design Coordination
- Coordinate MEP interfaces with architectural, structural, civil, and specialist systems.
- Review design information to identify clashes, conflicts, and integration challenges.
- Support multidisciplinary design reviews and constructability assessments.
- Work closely with BIM, digital engineering, and design management teams.
- Ensure technical requirements are fully integrated across disciplines.
Construction & Delivery Coordination
- Support project teams in managing installation sequencing and system integration.
- Coordinate contractor and subcontractor activities across work fronts.
- Monitor interface-related programme risks and propose mitigation measures.
- Assist in planning major equipment installations and system tie-ins.
- Ensure smooth transition from installation through commissioning and handover.
Risk & Change Management
- Identify interface-related risks, constraints, and opportunities.
- Support project risk workshops and mitigation planning.
- Assess the impact of design changes and variations on connected systems.
- Ensure interface changes are properly communicated and documented.
Commissioning & Handover
- Support integrated testing and commissioning activities.
- Coordinate interfaces between MEP systems and operational requirements.
- Ensure interface dependencies are addressed before system handover.
- Assist in the development of commissioning strategies and integrated testing plans.
Stakeholder Management
- Act as a focal point for interface-related communication across project teams.
- Liaise with clients, consultants, contractors, suppliers, and operational stakeholders.
- Facilitate interface workshops and coordination meetings.
- Present interface status reports and escalation items to project leadership.
- Reporting Maintain interface management documentation and records.
- Produce interface reports, dashboards, and progress updates.
- Monitor and report on interface actions, risks, and resolutions.
Support project controls teams with interface-related programme and risk analysis.

Essential Experience:
- Experience in MEP engineering, design coordination, project engineering, or interface management roles.
- Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and public health systems.
- Experience working on complex multidisciplinary construction or engineering projects.
- Knowledge of system integration and project delivery processes.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Excellent problem-solving, coordination, and organisational abilities.
Ability to manage multiple interfaces across large project teams.
