Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Head of Children’s Day Nursery to lead and manage our nursery facility. The successful candidate will oversee daily operations, ensure high standards of childcare, and foster a nurturing environment for children aged from infancy to early childhood. This role requires strong management and leadership skills, along with a passion for early childhood education and working with young children. The Head of Nursery will be responsible for maintaining compliance with regulatory standards, developing staff, and building positive relationships with parents and the community.
Responsibilities
- Lead the overall management of the nursery, ensuring smooth daily operations and adherence to legal and safety standards
- Develop and implement educational programmes that promote early childhood development in line with best practices
- Supervise, support, and motivate nursery staff to deliver high-quality childcare services
- Oversee staff recruitment, training, appraisals, and professional development initiatives
- Maintain effective communication with parents, addressing concerns and providing regular updates on children’s progress
- Ensure the nursery environment is safe, clean, organised, and stimulating for children
- Monitor compliance with all relevant regulations and standards set by regulatory bodies
- Manage administrative tasks including budgeting, resource planning, and record keeping
- Foster a positive team culture centred on teamwork, respect, and continuous improvement
- Promote the nursery within the local community to attract new families
Qualifications
- Proven management experience within a childcare or nursery setting
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and guide a team effectively
- Extensive experience working directly with children in early childhood education or childcare roles
- Knowledge of nursery regulations, health & safety standards, and safeguarding procedures
- Excellent communication skills in English, both verbal and written
- Relevant qualifications in early childhood education or childcare (e.g., NVQ Level 3 in Childcare) or equivalent recognised certification
- Valid driving licence is desirable for travel between sites or community engagement activities
- Passionate about child development with a caring and nurturing approach

Pay: £17.00-£18.25 per hour
