Melanie Curtis Accountants is not your typical accountancy practice. We work with ambitious construction businesses turning over between £1 million and £10 million, and we do a lot more than tick boxes and hit deadlines. We help our clients understand their numbers, improve their profitability and make better decisions, all delivered in a way that is friendly, modern and refreshingly different from traditional practices.
We are a growing, energetic team and we are looking for an experienced management accountant who genuinely enjoys working with clients, not just producing numbers for them.
The role
You will take ownership of a portfolio of clients, producing and reviewing their management accounts and then sitting down with them, in person or on a call, to talk through what the numbers actually mean. You will become a trusted point of contact for your clients, someone they look forward to hearing from rather than someone they brace themselves for.
This is a hands on, client facing role. You will need to be as comfortable explaining a set of numbers to a business owner as you are producing them.
What you will be doing
- Producing and reviewing monthly or quarterly management accounts for a portfolio of clients
- Meeting clients regularly to walk through their numbers, flag issues and opportunities, and answer their questions in plain English
- Building strong, trusted relationships with clients so they see you as part of their team
- Spotting the story behind the numbers, not just reporting them
- Working closely with the wider MCA team on bookkeeping, VAT, payroll and year end to make sure clients get a joined up service
- Helping clients improve profitability and make better commercial decisions
What we are looking for
- Solid experience producing management accounts, ideally gained in practice or an outsourced finance environment
- Genuine confidence and warmth when talking to clients, not just technical ability
- The ability to explain financial information clearly and practically, without jargon
- A proactive, commercial mindset, someone who spots what a client needs before they ask
- Experience with construction or trade sector clients is a strong advantage but not essential
- Comfortable working with Xero, Dext and similar cloud accounting tools
