Job Advert
Systems Developer — Backend Integration Specialist
Role Overview
We’re looking for a Systems Developer to join our engineering team and take a central role in building and maintaining the backend integrations that connect our e-commerce platform to warehouse, ERP and finance systems.
This is a hands-on development role in a high-volume e-commerce environment. You’ll design and build reliable, scalable integration solutions that keep orders flowing, inventory accurate and business systems in sync — particularly during peak trading periods.
What You’ll Do
-
Design and develop backend integrations between our e-commerce platform and enterprise systems including WMS, ERP and finance applications.
-
Build scalable middleware for order management, inventory synchronisation and real-time data exchange between systems.
-
Develop cloud-native, containerised services following clean architecture principles.
-
Create and maintain REST APIs and event-driven integrations across the technology estate.
-
Implement queue-based processing for asynchronous workflows, particularly for high-volume order and inventory operations.
-
Ensure system resilience through circuit breakers, retry mechanisms and graceful degradation strategies.
-
Use observability tooling to monitor integration health, identify bottlenecks and maintain SLA compliance.
-
Contribute to engineering standards through code reviews, pair programming and knowledge sharing.
What We’re Looking For
Required
-
5+ years of commercial backend development experience in a compiled or strongly-typed language.
-
Proven experience integrating e-commerce platforms with WMS, ERP or finance systems.
-
Strong SQL skills including query optimisation and schema design.
-
Solid understanding of software architecture principles — clean architecture, domain-driven design, SOLID.
-
Experience with modern development practices including test-driven development, CI/CD and version control with Git.
-
Hands-on experience with Docker and container-based deployment.
-
Familiarity with message queuing systems for event-driven architecture.
-
Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate across engineering, operations and business teams.
Nice to Have
-
Experience with cloud platforms, particularly AWS.
-
Familiarity with Kubernetes or container orchestration at scale.
-
Knowledge of GraphQL for modern API development.
-
Experience with AI-assisted development tools.
-
Understanding of PCI compliance and data security in e-commerce.
-
Experience with high-volume retail events such as Black Friday and seasonal peaks.
