Commercial Environmental Health Officer

Pay Rate: £45.00 - £50.00 per hour (DOE)

Hours: Full Time | Monday to Friday
Our Local Authority client is seeking an experienced Commercial Environmental Health Officer to join their Commercial Services team on a temporary basis.
This is an excellent opportunity to undertake the full range of Environmental Health duties across a diverse commercial caseload, helping to protect public health, ensure legislative compliance and deliver high-quality regulatory services.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out food safety and food hygiene inspections in accordance with the Food Standards Agency Food Law Code of Practice.
- Deliver health and safety interventions, inspections and investigations across a range of commercial premises.
- Administer and enforce legislation relating to animal licensing, including inspections and compliance visits.
- Monitor and regulate private water supplies, undertaking sampling and ensuring compliance with current regulations.
- Inspect and licence skin piercing, tattooing, acupuncture and cosmetic treatment premises.
- Investigate notifiable communicable diseases and work with relevant agencies to minimise public health risks.
- Investigate complaints, gather evidence and take appropriate enforcement action where required.
- Prepare reports, statutory notices, witness statements and documentation for legal proceedings.
- Provide professional advice and guidance to businesses, residents and stakeholders.
- Maintain accurate records and ensure statutory performance targets and deadlines are achieved.
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A recognised qualification in Environmental Health (Diploma, BSc or MSc) or equivalent that meets the requirements to practise as an Environmental Health Officer.
- Registration with the CIEH (or eligibility for registration).
- Experience undertaking the full range of Commercial Environmental Health functions within a Local Authority.
- Strong working knowledge of Food Safety, Health & Safety, Animal Licensing, Private Water Supplies, Skin Piercing and Public Health legislation.
- Experience carrying out inspections, investigations and formal enforcement action.
- Excellent report writing, communication and case management skills.
- The ability to manage a varied workload and prioritise competing demands effectively.
