We are seeking a reliable and experienced Yard Operative/Forklift Driver to join our clients team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing materials within the yard, operating forklifts safely and efficiently, and supporting warehouse operations. This role offers an engaging environment where organisational skills and mechanical knowledge are highly valued. The position is fully paid and suitable for individuals with prior warehouse experience or those eager to develop their skills in logistics and materials handling.
Duties
- Operate forklift trucks to load, unload, and transport materials within the yard and warehouse areas
- Assist with shipping and receiving activities, ensuring accurate documentation and handling of goods
- Manage stock levels using warehouse management systems to track inventory movements
- Perform basic equipment repairs or report faults to maintenance teams to ensure operational safety
- Handle materials carefully, adhering to safety protocols during loading and unloading processes
- Support warehouse organisation by stacking, storing, and retrieving items efficiently
- Conduct routine inspections of forklift equipment to ensure safety standards are maintained
- Assist in general yard duties such as cleaning, organising storage areas, and maintaining a tidy workspace
- Use basic maths skills for measuring, counting, and verifying quantities during stock movements
Skills
- Proven experience with warehouse management systems (WMS) and inventory control procedures
- Valid forklift licence with demonstrated experience in operating various types of forklifts safely
- Mechanical knowledge for minor equipment repairs and troubleshooting issues promptly
- Strong understanding of materials handling techniques in a busy warehouse environment
- Ability to load and unload goods efficiently while adhering to health and safety regulations
- Experience with shipping & receiving processes including documentation accuracy
- Good organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively
- Basic maths proficiency for measurements, calculations, and stock verification
- Physical fitness for heavy lifting tasks and prolonged periods of standing or walking within the yard or warehouse setting
This role is working Monday to Friday, between the hours of 7.30am to 4pm - with overtime available during peak periods.
