Employment Lawyer / Consultant / Trainee Solicitor
Location: Rawtenstall, Rossendale / Hybrid / Full Remote considered if not local
Start: Immediate start preferred
About the Role
Hamilton Law is looking for an experienced Employment Lawyer / Consultant / Trainee Solicitor to join its growing employment law department.
We are seeking somebody with genuine practical knowledge of UK employment law who can take responsibility for employment matters under solicitor supervision.
The role covers the full lifecycle of employment work, from initial assessment and advice through ACAS Early Conciliation, settlement negotiations and Employment Tribunal proceedings.
A significant proportion of our work is claimant-side, although experience acting for either claimants or respondents is welcomed.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing contentious and non-contentious employment matters from instruction through to conclusion.
- Conducting initial case assessments and advising on merits, strategy and next steps.
- Handling ACAS Early Conciliation and settlement negotiations.
- Drafting ET1s, ET3s, pleadings, Tribunal applications and correspondence.
- Managing Employment Tribunal/HMCTS submissions, directions and procedural deadlines.
- Handling disclosure, witness statements, schedules of loss and hearing preparation.
- Drafting and negotiating Settlement Agreements and COT3s.
- Liaising with clients, ACAS, opposing representatives and counsel.
- Assisting with new enquiries, onboarding and development of the employment department.
About You
This is not an entry-level employment law role. Applicants should already have practical UK employment law experience and a working knowledge of Employment Tribunal procedure.
We are open to experienced employment paralegals, legal executives, consultants and qualified lawyers/solicitors.
You should be comfortable dealing directly with clients, drafting substantive legal documents and progressing files with an appropriate degree of independence.
Experience across areas such as unfair dismissal, discrimination, whistleblowing, redundancy, TUPE and workplace disputes would be particularly useful.
Strong drafting, organisation, communication and legal judgement are essential.
Working Arrangements
Our office is based in Rawtenstall, Rossendale and office or hybrid working is preferred for candidates based within reasonable travelling distance.
However, fully remote working will be considered for the right candidate, particularly where they already have sufficient employment law experience to manage matters effectively from home.
We are flexible as to the precise working arrangement and would consider different working patterns for suitably experienced candidates.
The role may be structured on a freelance/consultancy basis, with the precise arrangement agreed with the successful candidate.
Development and Qualification
This is an opportunity to work directly with the supervising solicitor and gain broad exposure to employment matters from initial enquiry through to settlement or Tribunal.
For candidates working towards qualification, there is potential to build relevant Qualifying Work Experience, together with training contract consideration for the right candidate.
The role therefore particularly suits somebody who already has practical employment law experience but is looking for greater responsibility, broader exposure and an opportunity to progress their legal career.
Application
We are looking for somebody to join as soon as possible and will review applications as they are received.
Please apply with your CV, together with details of your employment law experience, current location, notice period/availability and preferred working arrangement.
