UCL is a global university where our students are at the heart of everything we do. With more than 50,000 students, our Student Support and Wellbeing Services (SSWS) play an important role in ensuring that every student can access the advice, information and support they need to thrive during their time at UCL.
Within Student and Registry Services, SSWS provides information, advice and welfare support to our diverse student community, alongside events and initiatives designed to promote wellbeing, connection and belonging.
We are looking for a Student Adviser Support to join our Student Advice & Business Partnership Services team. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful difference to students’ experiences at UCL, providing a welcoming first point of contact and helping students connect with the right support at the right time.
As a Student Adviser Support, you will work alongside Student Advisers and colleagues across Student Support and Wellbeing Services to provide accessible, responsive and student-centred support.
You will be one of the first points of contact for students accessing SSWS, responding to enquiries, supporting students through 1:1 appointments and helping them navigate the range of support available across UCL. You will take the time to listen to students, understand their circumstances and ensure they feel heard, valued and appropriately supported.
A key part of the role will be supporting students who are transitioning into university life, as well as proactively engaging with priority groups of students. You will reach out to students to check on their wellbeing and progress, help them settle into life at UCL and encourage them to engage with relevant support and opportunities.
You will also contribute to a strong sense of community and belonging by helping to plan and deliver wellbeing events, workshops and initiatives throughout the academic year. You will work in partnership with colleagues across UCL, including academic departments, Transition Mentors and student societies, to strengthen local support for students.
The role also involves providing effective administrative support to the Student Adviser team, including managing enquiries, coordinating appointments, maintaining accurate records, updating information and ensuring students are signposted or referred to appropriate services. You will support students with matters including reasonable academic adjustments and will escalate more complex cases appropriately.
Please note this is a fixed term contract (also available as a secondment) until 31st July 2027. The role operates hybrid working with a minimum of 2-3 days per week onsite at our Bloomsbury campus (subject to change).
If you have any queries about the role, please contact the SSWS Business Partnership team at: [email protected] for the attention of Robert Clarke.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about supporting students and committed to delivering an inclusive, compassionate and high-quality service.
You will have experience of supporting others, ideally within an educational, health or social care environment, and experience of advising students or individuals on a range of wellbeing-related matters. You will be confident communicating with people from diverse backgrounds and able to listen carefully, respond with empathy and exercise tact and diplomacy when dealing with sensitive or challenging situations.
You will be highly organised, able to manage competing priorities and deadlines, and comfortable working both independently and collaboratively. You will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate and confidential records.
You will also be confident using Microsoft Office and able to work within established policies and procedures, while using your judgement to recognise when an issue needs to be escalated or referred to a specialist service.
Most importantly, you will share UCL's commitment to listening to others and supporting them with compassion, making best practice a priority and being open to new ideas that can improve outcomes for students.
Experience of working in Higher Education, a relevant professional qualification in mental health, knowledge of UK disability legislation or experience using student or client management systems would be advantageous.
If you are passionate about helping students feel supported, connected and able to succeed, we would love to hear from you.
