HBE Services - Site Manager
Do you run structural steelwork installations the way they should be run — safely, on programme, and to a standard you are proud of?
Are you the person on site that clients trust, fitters respect, and Project Managers rely on to get it done?
Ready to join a quality-focused, BCSA-accredited steelwork contractor where your work is visible and your contribution matters?
About HBE Services
HBE Services have been delivering architectural and structural steelwork since 2008, from domestic extensions through to major commercial refurbishments and new builds across the UK. We are BCSA members, Constructionline Gold accredited, CHAS-certified, and hold UKCA accreditation.
What makes HBE different is our approach. We deliver a carefully managed portfolio of projects from full architectural and structural packages, bespoke fabrications, high-quality installation. Our clients come back because of the relationships we build and the standard of work we deliver, not just the price.
About the Role
HBE is looking for a Site Manager to take full ownership of structural steelwork installations across our project portfolio from pre-start survey through to completed handover.
You will be HBE’s representative on site. You will manage erection teams and sub-contractors, maintain programme and quality, liaise directly with main contractors and clients, and make sure every installation reflects the standard we are known for.
You will work closely with the Project Managers back at base, feeding back on progress, flagging risks early, and keeping things moving. This is a role for someone who takes ownership on site and does not wait to be managed.
What You’ll Be Responsible For
- Managing structural steelwork erection on site from commencement through to handover
- Conducting pre-erect surveys and ensuring all site-specific requirements are understood before work begins
- Leading and managing erection teams and sub-contractors on site, including allocation of labour to meet programme requirements
- Maintaining programme, raising Early Warning Notifications where required, and keeping Project Managers informed of progress and risk
- Issuing and maintaining RAMs, ensuring all Health and Safety requirements are met on site at all times
- Producing weekly KPI reports on H&S, lifting operations, and programme performance
- Monitoring planned vs actual hours, downtime, and rework via StruMIS and Fieldwire, and reporting to the Project Manager weekly
- Carrying out quality checks throughout installation and signing off completed works via the Site Inspection Form with photographic evidence
- Using the 3D scanner to feed accurate information back to the Design Manager for drawing updates
- Liaising directly with main contractors, clients, and site teams in a professional and proactive manner
- Identifying and managing opportunities for additional works, providing information to the Project Manager for costing and agreement
- Ensuring all paperwork, timesheets, and sign-off documentation are completed accurately and on time
- Managing the hire and off-hire of plant and equipment efficiently
- Holding site induction meetings and delivering a regular programme of Toolbox Talks
- Reporting incidents, near misses, and non-conformities in line with RIDDOR and HBE’s QMS
- Operating a system of continual improvement across all installation processes
Who We’re Looking For
The person who will thrive in this role has structural steelwork in their background and site management in their blood. They know how an erection programme should run, they know what good installation looks like, and they are not prepared to accept anything less.
You are calm under pressure. When things shift on site, and they always do, you adapt, communicate clearly, and find a way through. You do not go quiet when a problem arises you deal with it and keep everyone informed.
You are trusted by the people you work with. Fitters know where they stand. Main contractors know they will get a straight answer. Project Managers know they do not need to chase for updates.
You understand that HBE is not a volume contractor. Every job you manage carries the company’s reputation with it, and you take that seriously.
