About the Role
Relative Groundwork Limited is looking for an experienced Responsive Water Mains Engineer / Repairer to join our team, working across London, Kent, Surrey and Sussex.
This is a predominantly site-based role involving the investigation, repair and installation of domestic water supply services. You will be responsible for attending responsive and emergency works, identifying the cause of water supply issues and completing "find and fix" repairs wherever reasonably possible on the first visit.
The successful candidate will have a logical and methodical approach to diagnosing water mains and service supply problems and will be expected to identify the most appropriate and economical repair solution, while maintaining high standards of workmanship, health and safety and customer care.
Key Responsibilities
- Attend responsive and emergency water mains and water supply repairs across London, Kent, Surrey and Sussex.
- Investigate water supply problems and accurately identify the cause of failures or leaks.
- Undertake find and fix repairs, aiming to complete works during the initial visit wherever practicable.
- Establish ownership and responsibility for water supplies through logical investigation and appropriate site checks.
- Repair and replace domestic water supply services.
- Undertake installation and replacement of 20mm to 32mm water service pipes.
- Create new Points of Entry where required.
- Carry out excavation works safely and efficiently to expose water mains and services.
- Use CAT & Genny equipment to scan for and identify buried services before and during excavation.
- Complete safe excavation, repair and reinstatement works.
- Reinstate a variety of domestic surfaces, including:
- Paving slabs
- Block paving
- Tarmac
- Concrete
- Other domestic hardstanding and surface finishes
- Select the most economical and appropriate repair method without compromising quality, safety or compliance.
- Complete accurate job records, photographs, materials used and details of the repair undertaken.
- Maintain company vehicles, plant, tools and equipment in a safe and serviceable condition.
- Liaise professionally with residents, customers, clients and other contractors.
- Maintain excellent standards of customer service, particularly when working in occupied residential properties.
- Comply with company policies, risk assessments, method statements and all relevant health and safety requirements.
- Work flexibly as part of an emergency response service, including occasional out-of-hours and weekend work where required.
Essential Experience & Qualifications
The successful candidate will ideally have:
- Proven experience as a Water Mains Engineer, Water Supply Engineer, Groundworker or similar role.
- Demonstrable experience of find and fix water supply repairs.
- Experience working on domestic water mains and service supplies.
- Experience installing and repairing 20mm–32mm water services.
- Experience creating new Points of Entry.
- A current EUSR National Water Hygiene Card (Blue Card).
- Competence in using CAT & Genny equipment to identify buried services.
- Experience of excavation and reinstatement.
- Experience reinstating paving, block paving, tarmac and concrete surfaces.
- A good understanding of underground services and safe digging practices.
- A full UK driving licence.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- A strong commitment to health and safety.
- Excellent customer service skills.
