About the role
Please note that the advertised salary for this position is subject to the pending 2026/2027 national pay award. The final salary will be adjusted accordingly once this has been agreed.
We are looking to recruit a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to be part of the Building Control team on a permanent, full-time basis.
Forming part of the wider Planning Service, which deals with statutory duties and requirements under the Building Regulations and other related legislation, the postholder will play a key role in monitoring and regulating developments across the county.
On a day-to-day basis, you will:
Assess Building Regulation applications and supporting information.
Undertake site inspections to assess compliance with Building Regulations and associated legislation.
Provide professional, impartial and practical technical advice to applicants, agents, contractors and members of the public.
Support the Council’s statutory response to dangerous structures.
Contribute to an effective, efficient, responsive and high-quality Building Control service.
Contribute to the implementation of legislative changes arising from the Building (Wales) Regulations 2024 and 2025.
Provide support to the wider Planning Service where required.
We are looking to recruit an individual who:
Has a degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant subject, or an equivalent combination of Building Control knowledge and experience.
Is a Registered Building Inspector at Class 2(a–f) or higher.
Can communicate impartially, professionally and effectively with a wide range of people at various levels.
Can work with limited supervision and manage competing priorities and tight deadlines.
Has a strong commitment to providing a high-quality public service and achieving customer satisfaction.
The post requires a degree of fluency in the Welsh language. Please note that a successful applicant without the required Welsh language skill will be fully supported to reach the required standard within two years of appointment.
