Aims

To provide a happy, safe and stimulating environment for children and families, within the remit of the Children's Act.

To provide for the social, physical, intellectual, creative and emotional development of children through playing

To support parents/carers in their role

Duties

To consult with children and involve children and families in planning and evaluation
Plan and provide stimulating activities suitable to the needs of children attending the session
Set up the room to be welcoming to children and adults
Be responsible for and supervise small groups of children during the session
Assist with running the session, helping to create a supportive and friendly atmosphere and using appropriate strategies in the management of children
Ensure all toys, materials, equipment, cups etc. are kept in a clean, safe condition and put away at the end of each session (paint pots etc to be washed) and the room is left in a clean and tidy condition
Assist with record keeping as appropriate: registers, accident book etc.
To liaise sensitively with parents on matters concerning their children and maintain appropriate confidentiality at all times
Report to the Young People's Team Leader any health and safety issues, or any other issues regarding children’s welfare
To work as part of a team, receive supervision and attend team meetings
To be willing to attend appropriate training sessions
To undertake any other duties that may from time to time be required by the senior worker and Management team

Qualifications
Essential

Level 2 Diploma or equivalent in Play work

Desirable

Level 3 Diploma or equivalent in Play work

Safeguarding Training

First Aid Training

Skills

Good communication

Ability to plan activities suitable for needs of children

Awareness of Health and Safety legislation

Ability to interact with children

An understanding of requirements of play for children

Salary: £12.71 per hour plus holiday pay
