Job Summary
Established in 1883, Arthur Johnson & Sons is a family-run auction house situated on the site of the old cattle market in Nottingham. Our auctions take place every Saturday with up to seven salerooms offering a huge variety of antique, vintage and contemporary items.
As an Auction Room Assistant, you’ll be working as part of a team preparing the auction. You’ll be accepting items for sale from customers and suppliers. Writing lot descriptions, photographing the items and entering information onto our system ready for the online catalogue to be published every Wednesday. The role is full-time including Saturdays, which is a working day here at our auction centre.
The role is fast-paced and deadlines are ever-present - it’s also highly interesting and perfect for those with a willingness to learn and develop.
Manual handling of furniture and kitchen appliances is required.
You will report to the saleroom managers, but may be asked to work in different salerooms on occasion, adding even more interest and variety to the role.
Duties
- Able to handle fast-paced physical work while ensuring care and attention while handling heavy items
- Computer literate and able to undertake data entry
- Efficient, friendly and great with customers
- Clear and accurate writing
- Able to take good quality digital photographs
Requirements
- English and maths grade C/level 5 or above
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively
- Good phone etiquette and professional communication skills
- Basic knowledge of data entry procedures and administrative processes
- Ability to work independently whilst maintaining a team-oriented approach
Salary negotiable dependent upon experience.

Pay: £24,420.00-£26,000.00 per year
