The Firs is recruiting for compassionate Host/ Hostess to join the team.
SUMMARY OF THE ROLE:
The role of the hostess is to be a part of the kitchen and Care team under the instruction of the kitchen manager and Home Manager. You will work to ensure fluid and dietary needs are met and to assist in creating inspiring mealtimes for Residents at the home, understanding all preferences and dietary requirements. You will need to enjoy interacting and communicating with the elderly. All regulations for food health and hygiene must be adhered to at all times.

· Experience in hospitality/catering is beneficial

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Accountable to: Kitchen Manager, Cooks, Home Manager, Deputy Manager
1. To assist in the provision of snacks and fluids throughout the day.
2. To ensure the Tea/snack trolly is kept clean and well stocked with a variety of sweet and savoury items.
3. To update residents daily care records with food and fluid intake promptly
4. To be aware of the residents’ needs and dietary preferences.
5. To hold a suitable food hygiene certificate and attend any other mandatory training on- or off-site as required.
6. To prepare food in a hygienic manner, adhering to regulations when required
7. To assist with the setting up of the dining room ready for service, including dressing the tables.
8. To assist vulnerable adults with nutritional support
9. To assist in the distribution of meals to the residents of the home ensuring that appropriate temperatures are maintained.
10. To ensure residents on soft diets or at choke risk are served appropriate food on red trays or plates/bowls etc.
11. To ensure that extra care is taken to avoid cross-contamination for residents with allergies.
12. To ensure that all food is used within the prescribed period, with particular attention paid to perishable goods.
13. To dispose of waste correctly.
14. To assist with clearing dishes from the dining room and residents rooms.
15. To ensure that all equipment and cleaning materials are properly used, kept clean, not abused and replaced in the proper places where they are kept when not in use.
16. Ensure that the kitchen is left in a clean and hygienic state at all times.
17. To keep a high standard of personal cleanliness and appearance, to include the wearing of the specified uniform.
18. Carry out any other tasks that may be reasonably assigned to you.
GENERAL:
1. To make visitors feel welcome offering them beverages and support should they require this.
2. To attend meetings when required.
3. To take instruction from those in charge on shift or more senior than you – i.e. the Area Manager, Manager, Deputy, Kitchen Manager, Cooks.
4. To actively participate in all mandatory training within the home and such other training as is deemed relevant to the well-being of the home, this being in accordance with legislation and regulations laid down by appropriate authorities.
5. To assist in the implementation of policies and procedures and the home’s Quality Assurance program.
6. To report any concerns or general feedback to management.
7. To be aware of Health & Safety issues, with regard to you, other members of staff and service users. Each person has a duty of care to themselves and others. Any equipment should not be used without proper recognized training. It is the individual’s responsibility to ensure that appropriate protection is used when managing bodily fluids and other waste deemed hazardous to health. Personal protective equipment will be supplied by the owners.
8. To be accountable for record keeping and reporting where required, to ensure that all records are completed before leaving shift.
9. To promote the best interests of the home both in and out of work.
10. To at all times maintain service user and staff and home confidentiality.
11. To be able to respond in an emergency in a calm and sensitive manner.

Pay: £12.80 per hour
