Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA)
- Location: Banks House School, 51 Wendene, Norwich, NR5 9HA (Note: May occasionally be required to work at other CASCADE sites with reasonable notice).
- Salary: £25,500 - £30,250 (Depending on Experience, Qualifications, and Skill-set).
- Hours: Full-Time, 40 hours per week (8 hours/day).

The Role
The Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) is a pivotal role that supports class teachers to raise pupil learning and attainment. The HLTA works to promote pupils' independence, self-esteem, and social inclusion by providing support, both individually and in groups, to ensure all students can access the curriculum, participate in learning, and experience a sense of achievement. Core responsibilities include demonstrating an informed and efficient approach to teaching, leading and delivering learning activities (under supervision), and using effective behaviour management strategies. Furthermore, the HLTA contributes to assessment and planning by monitoring pupil progress, and they are expected to collaborate effectively with colleagues, parents/carers, and external professionals.
Key Responsibilities
- Teaching & Learning: Deliver tailored support enabling pupils to access the curriculum; use effective behavior management strategies in line with school policy.
- Classroom Management: Organise stimulating, safe learning spaces; direct the work of other support adults where relevant.
- Curriculum & Frameworks: Apply knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice, EYFS framework, Read Write Inc, and White Rose Maths.
- Safeguarding: Uphold the highest standards of safety, strictly following Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) and Prevent guidelines.
- Collaboration: Work closely with teachers, parents, carers, and external health/social care professionals across Norfolk.
What We Are Looking For (Person Specification)
- Qualifications: Level 4 HLTA course/certificate (or equivalent demonstrable experience meeting HLTA standards). Nationally recognized Level 2 (Grade 4/C or above) in English/Literacy and Mathematics/Numeracy is essential.
- Experience: Proven background working in an educational setting with children/young people, specifically planning and delivering learning activities.
- Skills: Strong IT proficiency, excellent written/verbal communication, and the resilience to work calmly under pressure.
- Desirable: First Aid training and a Full UK Driving Licence.
