Experienced Pharmacy Dispenser
Portmans Pharmacy – Barbican, London
We are looking for an experienced, motivated and reliable Pharmacy Dispenser to join our friendly and busy independent pharmacy team in the heart of Barbican, London.
This role is suited to someone who is courteous, well-presented, dedicated, willing to learn and able to work accurately at speed in a fast-paced pharmacy environment.
Working Hours
5–6 days per week
Monday to Friday: 9:00am – 6:30pm
Saturday: 11:00am – 4:00pm
About the Role
You will play a key role within the pharmacy, supporting the safe and accurate dispensing of prescriptions and assisting the pharmacy team in delivering high-quality patient care and NHS pharmacy services.
The pharmacy operates at a fast pace, so the successful candidate must be able to work quickly while maintaining a high level of accuracy, responsibility and attention to detail.
Previous experience using ProScript Connect is essential. Applications without this experience may not be considered.
Key Responsibilities
- Accurately dispense NHS and private prescriptions.
- Work efficiently and accurately in a busy, fast-paced dispensary.
- Maintain a professional, courteous and respectful manner with patients, colleagues and healthcare professionals.
- Work in accordance with GPhC standards, pharmacy SOPs and NHS requirements.
- Promote the safe and effective use of medicines.
- Resolve dispensing and pharmaceutical queries where appropriate.
- Support Pharmacy Assistants, Technicians and other members of the pharmacy team.
- Apply clinical and technical knowledge to resolve day-to-day dispensing issues.
- Assist with the recording and reporting of dispensing errors and near misses.
- Participate in audits and quality improvement activities.
- Maintain accurate pharmacy records and filing systems.
- Resolve delivery discrepancies and maintain resolution logs.
- Prepare and organise monitored dosage systems/blister packs for local patients and care homes.
- Support the delivery and administration of NHS pharmacy services, including Pharmacy First, CPCS and other locally commissioned services.
- Assist with Blood Pressure Check services and Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring where trained and competent.
- Actively promote pharmacy services to patients, including NHS and private services offered by the pharmacy.
- Support the pharmacy team with service-related administration, documentation, follow-ups and record keeping.
- Assist with NHS Pharmacy Quality Scheme requirements, where applicable.
- Support completion of mandatory NHS England assessments, declarations, training and service requirements as instructed by the senior pharmacy team.
- Collect prescriptions from local GP surgeries when required.
- Attend mandatory training sessions, including pharmacovigilance, therapy training and NHS service training.
- Demonstrate ongoing commitment to Continuing Professional Development.
- Mentor and support new members of the dispensary team where appropriate.
- Carry out statutory pharmacy duties as delegated by the Responsible Pharmacist.
Essential Requirements
- Recognised Dispensary Assistant Qualification.
- Previous pharmacy dispensing experience.
- Must be proficient in ProScript Connect.
- Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
- Ability to dispense quickly, safely and accurately under pressure.
- Clear, professional and courteous communication skills.
- Responsible, reliable and dedicated attitude to work.
- Willingness to learn, develop and support the wider pharmacy team.
- Ability to work efficiently in a busy pharmacy environment.
- Strong teamwork skills.
- Confident speaking to patients and promoting pharmacy services.

- Willingness to support NHS services, pharmacy administration and mandatory service requirements.
Desirable Experience
- Experience working within a high-volume community pharmacy.
- Experience preparing blister packs/monitored dosage systems.
- Experience supporting NHS clinical services such as Pharmacy First, CPCS, Blood Pressure Checks or ABPM.
- Experience with NHS Pharmacy Quality Scheme requirements.
- Full UK driving licence, advantageous for surgery collections but not essential.
