Job Title: Senior Accounts Assistant
Contract: Full Time; Permanent
Salary: £35,000 - £37,000 per annum
Location: Wokingham, RG41 or Watford, WD18 (Hybrid – 2 days in the office)
Our client is a leading Family Law Firm, looking for an Accounts Assistant to support the financial processes within their firm.
The Role
The Accounts Assistant is responsible for supporting the day-to-day financial operations of the law firm, ensuring transactions are processed accurately, efficiently and in accordance with regulatory and company requirements.
The ideal candidate will have previous in-house experience within a law firm’s accounts function, with a strong understanding of legal accounting processes, including fixed and variable billing. They will be able to work accurately and efficiently in a fast-paced, client-focused environment.
Responsibilities
- Process supplier invoices, payments, and reconciliations, ensuring accuracy and timely payment.
- Raise customer invoices, credit notes, and fixed and variable solicitor bills, allocating receipts and supporting credit control activities.
- Manage the accounts inbox and respond to supplier and customer finance queries.
- Perform bank reconciliations, maintain cash books, and monitor cash flow.
- Prepare and process supplier, employee expense, and other payment runs, ensuring appropriate authorisation.
- Process employee expenses and corporate card transactions in line with company policy.
- Maintain the fixed asset register, including asset additions, disposals, and monthly depreciation.
- Support VAT compliance, including reconciliations, return preparation, and submission.
- Assist with month-end close, including accruals, prepayments, balance sheet reconciliations, and management reporting.
- Prepare KPI reports and support budgeting, cash flow forecasting, and financial analysis.
- Assist with external audits and ensure financial records are accurate and audit ready.
- Produce, review, and improve management accounts and financial reports to enhance clarity and usability.
- Support the preparation and reconciliation of fixed and variable solicitor billing, ensuring accuracy and compliance with agreed fee structures.
- Identify opportunities to improve finance processes, controls, and efficiencies.
- Undertake ad hoc finance duties as required.
Qualifications and Skills
- Must be AAT Level 3 qualified or above or studying towards a higher professional accounting qualification
- Previous experience working on Solicitor Accounts, in-house of a law firm
- Fixed fee and time-based billing
- 12 months prior bookkeeping experience
- Knowledge on VAT process
- Excellent IT skills (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral
- Demonstrates the ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
- Excellent prioritisation and time management skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- Must be able to work independently, with minimum supervision
