Biomedical Services (BMS) supports world-class research at the University of Oxford by providing expert care for laboratory animals across multiple facilities. Our work is governed by the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986 and is driven by a strong commitment to animal welfare and scientific excellence.
We are looking for a Senior Technician (Grade 5) to support the delivery of high-quality animal care and technical services within our facilities.
The postholder will be an experienced member of the team, responsible for supporting the day-to-day running of the facility and ensuring that animal care is delivered in accordance with regulatory and institutional standards.
Working closely with the Facility Manager and Deputy Facility Manager, you will assist in organising workloads and supervising a small team of technicians. You will also contribute to technical and administrative processes that support research activity and maintain compliance at all times.
The role requires a high level of knowledge of the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986, strong organisational skills, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
You will normally be based at a single facility but may be required to work across other BMS facilities as operational needs dictate. The position involves a combination of independent working, team supervision, and collaboration with researchers and other departments.
Opportunities are available for continuing professional development, including further training in animal technology and welfare. This employment is full-time, permanent, 36.5 hours per week. We are advertising this post as a full-time position.
