HGV, Trailer Technician – Wrexham

About the Role
We are a Wrexham-based commercial vehicle repair and maintenance business looking for an experienced and motivated HGV, Trailer Technician to join our team.
This is a varied, hands-on role covering the maintenance, servicing, diagnosis and repair of HGVs, Trailers and plant equipment.
The successful candidate will be comfortable working independently, diagnosing faults and carrying out repairs both in the workshop and at roadside breakdowns when required.
A key part of the role will be taking ownership and responsibility for jobs from initial diagnosis through to completion, including identifying parts required and ensuring parts are ordered promptly. Good organisation and forward planning are essential to minimise vehicle downtime and prevent unnecessary delays.
Mentor and support our apprentices, helping them develop practical skills and industry knowledge.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out servicing, inspections, repairs and general maintenance on HGVs, trailers and plant equipment.
- Diagnose and rectify mechanical, electrical and electronic faults.
- Carry out vehicle and equipment diagnostics and fault finding.
- Attend roadside breakdowns when required and diagnose faults efficiently.
- Take full ownership of allocated jobs from diagnosis through to completion.
- Identify parts and materials required to complete repairs and ensure they are ordered promptly.
- Monitor parts availability and follow up outstanding orders where necessary to prevent delays.
- Plan repair work effectively to minimise vehicle and equipment downtime.
- Carry out repairs safely and efficiently to a high standard.
- Identify faults and advise customers on the required repairs and appropriate solutions.
- Maintain accurate job information and communicate any issues that may affect completion times.
- Maintain good working relationships with customers, suppliers and colleagues.
- Work independently when required, including workshop and roadside work.
- Mentor and support our apprentices, helping them develop practical skills and industry knowledge.
- Follow all relevant health and safety procedures and company working practices.
About You
We are looking for someone who is reliable, practical and takes pride in delivering a high standard of workmanship.
The ideal candidate will be someone who doesn't simply complete the repair but takes ownership of the job and sees it through from start to finish.
Essential Requirements
- HGV Technician qualification or relevant industry experience.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Good knowledge of HGV servicing, maintenance and repair.
- Experience or knowledge of trailer maintenance and repair.
- Good understanding of vehicle electrical systems and diagnostics.
- Sound knowledge of health and safety within a vehicle maintenance environment.
- Ability to work independently and use initiative.
- Good organisational skills and the ability to manage jobs through to completion.
HGV Class 1 (C+E) licence would be advantageous but is not essential.
Experience working with plant equipment would also be advantageous.
Working Hours
Monday to Friday: 06:00–17:00
Alternate Saturdays are required as part of the role.
Overtime paid @

· Sunday @ Double Time
