Job Purpose
To undertake a range of groundworks and general construction duties across refurbishment, maintenance and new-build projects, ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out general groundworks, excavation and preparation works.
- Dig foundations, trenches and service runs.
- Prepare and pour concrete foundations, slabs and bases.
- Install drainage systems, gullies, inspection chambers and underground services.
- Carry out ground preparation, levelling, compacting and reinstatement.
- Lay paving, slabs, kerbs, edging and other external finishes.
- Construct concrete paths, steps, ramps and hardstanding areas.
- Carry out brickwork, blockwork and minor masonry repairs where required.
- Operate small plant and equipment safely, including breakers, compactors, mixers and cutting equipment.
- Assist with demolition and strip-out works.
- Carry out basic landscaping and external works.
- Identify and report underground services and site hazards.
- Maintain tools, equipment and work areas in a safe and tidy condition.
- Work from drawings, specifications and instructions provided by the Site Manager.
- Assist other trades when required to keep projects progressing.
- Complete works within agreed timescales and to the required quality standard.
- Follow company health & safety, environmental and site procedures.
Required Skills & Experience
- Previous experience as a Groundworker in construction or refurbishment.
- Competent with general groundworks and external works.
- Ability to read and understand basic drawings and specifications.
- Experience with concrete, drainage, excavation and reinstatement works.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a wider site team.
- Good understanding of construction site health & safety.
- Reliable, practical and hardworking approach.
- Good attention to detail and quality.
- Full UK driving licence preferred.
Desirable Qualifications
- CSCS card.
- CPCS or NPORS plant tickets.
- Dumper / roller / excavator qualifications.
- Manual Handling training.
- First Aid qualification.

Working Conditions
The role involves working outdoors and may involve physically demanding activities, working in varying weather conditions, excavation areas and active construction sites. Appropriate PPE must be worn at all times and all site safety procedures must be followed.
