Role Summary
We are seeking an enthusiastic, inspiring, and skilled Singing / Vocal Teacher who is self-employed/freelance to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a background in vocal coaching (Musical Theatre and Pop styles would be beneficial) and a genuine passion for teaching children of varying ages and abilities. Your enthusiasm and expertise will help students unlock their vocal potential, build confidence, and develop a lifelong love for singing.
You will be responsible for leading engaging group singing classes in our Main Academy, developing vocal technique, harmony work, and preparing students for performances including our annual Summer Showcase and Musical.
We have opportunities available for both ongoing weekly teaching slots and joining our trusted cover roster.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging classes: Plan and teach fun, high-energy, and technically sound singing classes for students aged 4 to 16 years.
- Vocal development: Teach healthy vocal production, breathing techniques, pitch, projection, and age-appropriate music theory.
- Ensemble & harmony work: Arrange and teach group songs, blending voices and introducing harmony work
- Performance preparation: Select repertoire and rehearse students for academy showcases, community events, and musical performances.
- Positive classroom management: Create an inclusive, supportive, and structured environment where students feel confident to try new things and sing out.
- Team collaboration: Work alongside our Dance and Drama teachers to integrate musical numbers into full Main Academy pieces.
- Safeguarding: Adhere strictly to Echo’s safeguarding policies and maintain a safe, nurturing environment for all young people.
Person Specification (What We Are Looking For)
Essential:
- Strong background in singing, musical theatre and theatre production including show performances or management would be preferable.
- Vocal expertise: Strong knowledge of vocal anatomy, healthy singing techniques, and diverse musical styles (particularly Musical Theatre and contemporary pop).
- Teaching experience: Proven experience teaching singing to children and teenagers in a group setting (stage school, community, or school environment). Ability to tailor lessons to age groups, needs and learning styles.
- Energy & enthusiasm: An infectious, encouraging energy that motivates children and helps build their self-esteem.
- Reliability: Highly organised, punctual, and fully committed to term-time schedules and show dates.
- Accompaniment (Desirable): Ability to play the piano/keyboard to accompany classes is a major plus, though backing tracks are widely used.
- A current Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to undergo one).
- Age 20+
Desirable:
- A relevant qualification in singing or performing arts (BA Hons, IDTA, ISTD, RAD, or equivalent experience).
- Paediatric First Aid qualification.
- An understanding of safeguarding practices in a youth setting. All Echo teachers will be expected to undertake and provide certification of Safeguarding training before commencing teaching. Courses can be recommended.
Pay: £15.00-£25.00 per hour
Expected hours: 3.0 – 6.0 per week
