Overview
Carter Group is seeking an energetic and detail-oriented Health, Safety and Environmental (HSEQ) Manager to lead our safety initiatives across multiple sites. In this vital role, you will develop, implement, and oversee safety programs that promote a safe working environment for all staff and contractors. Your proactive approach will ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations while fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain comprehensive health, safety, and environmental policies aligned with industry standards and legal requirements
- Conduct regular site inspections to identify hazards and ensure adherence to safety protocols
- Lead incident investigations using root cause analysis techniques to determine underlying issues and prevent recurrence
- Prepare detailed report writing for safety audits, incident reports, and compliance documentation
- Promote safety awareness through training sessions, toolbox talks, and ongoing communication
- Collaborate with management to implement corrective actions and monitor their effectiveness
- Prepare and review RAMS for work activities and be the lead on our online Health and Safety Platform for signing in onsite
- Review subcontractor prequalification and competency prior to onboarding
- Maintain annual SSIP accreditations (Constructionline, SafeContractor, Achilles)
- Mange and monitor compliance with the company ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001 accreditation, including internal and external audits, objectives tracking and monitoring.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in health, safety, or environmental management within a similar industry setting
- Strong knowledge of relevant health, safety, and environmental legislation and standards
- Certification in IOSH, Nebosh high preferred or working towards
- Excellent report writing skills with the ability to communicate complex information clearly
- Skilled in root cause analysis techniques to identify underlying issues effectively
- Ability to conduct thorough site inspections and risk assessments with attention to detail

Internal training provided on systems used and company procedures.
Contract: Permanent
Hours: Full-time office based with travel to sites, Monday to Friday 08:30 - 17:00 with flexibility to travel to sites based on client demands
Probation Period: 3 months
Holiday: 25 days + Bank Holidays (3 days to be taken between Christmas and New Year shutdown subject to change)
Pension: Statutory
Salary: negotiable based on experience
Benefits: Company van and fuel card or agreed car allowance and mileage claimed for travel to sites from office
Pay: £35,000.00-£45,000.00 per year
