At Laburnum Care Group, our people are at the heart of everything we do. Every payslip represents someone who has made a difference to the lives of the people we support, and we're looking for an experienced Payroll Specialist to ensure they're paid accurately, on time, every time.
This is an exciting opportunity to join our growing Group and take ownership of payroll across multiple care businesses. Working closely with our HR, Finance and Operational teams, you'll play a vital role in ensuring payroll is delivered efficiently, compliantly and with excellent customer service.
What you'll do
As our Payroll Specialist, you'll be responsible for delivering an accurate, efficient payroll service across the Group whilst continually identifying opportunities to improve our payroll processes.
You will:
- Manage the end-to-end monthly payroll process across multiple Group companies.
- Ensure all employees are paid accurately and on time.
- Process starters, leavers, contractual changes, salary adjustments and statutory payments.
- Calculate overtime, enhancements, sleep-ins, mileage and other payroll variables.
- Administer workplace pension auto-enrolment, pension contributions and re-enrolment processes, ensuring full compliance with pension legislation.
- Ensure compliance with HMRC legislation, statutory payments, National Minimum Wage and payroll best practice.
- Reconcile payroll reports and complete payroll checks prior to submission.
- Liaise with Finance regarding payroll journals, reporting and payroll reconciliations.
- Maintain accurate payroll records and employee data.
- Support year-end payroll processes, including P60s and statutory reporting.
- Work collaboratively with HR to ensure employee information is accurate and up to date.
- Respond to payroll queries professionally, providing an excellent service to colleagues and managers.
- Continually review payroll processes and identify opportunities to improve efficiency as the Group continues to grow.
What we're looking for
You'll be an organised, detail-focused payroll professional who enjoys solving problems and delivering an outstanding service. You'll be comfortable managing multiple priorities, working confidentially and building strong relationships across the organisation.
Ideally you'll have:
- Previous end-to-end payroll experience.
- A Level 2 Payroll qualification (or equivalent, such as a CIPP Level 2 Certificate) is desirable.
- Experience processing payroll within a multi-site organisation (health or social care experience would be advantageous).
- Good knowledge of HMRC legislation, statutory payments, pensions and auto-enrolment requirements.
- Experience using payroll software, with BrightPay experience being highly desirable.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and numerical accuracy.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills.
- The ability to manage confidential information with discretion.
- Strong communication skills and a customer-focused approach.
- A proactive mindset with a passion for continuous improvement.
Why join us?
At Laburnum, people are at the heart of everything we do—the people we support and the people who work with us. You'll join a supportive, values-driven organisation where your expertise genuinely makes a difference.
As our Group continues to grow, you'll have the opportunity to help shape and improve our payroll function, influence new ways of working and be part of an organisation committed to doing the right thing, the right way.
We'll provide you with the support, tools and opportunities to continue developing your career while making a real impact across our services.
