Job Title: Maintenance Person (Part-Time, Flexible)
Hours: 24 hours per week (Flexible schedule across weekdays and weekends)

Role Overview
We are looking for a reliable, practical, and resourceful person to help with the general upkeep of our animal centre and charity shops when required. This flexible role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on work, has a proactive approach to problem-solving, and is passionate about supporting an organisation dedicated to animal welfare. The person will undertake a variety of maintenance tasks, contributing to a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for our staff, volunteers, visitors, and animals.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct repairs and maintenance around the centre, including basic plumbing, carpentry, electrical, and painting tasks. Plumbing and electrical work that requires additional knowledge will be covered by contractors.
- Ensure cleanliness and order in communal areas, pathways, and outdoor spaces, maintaining a tidy and safe environment.
- Undertake general groundskeeping duties, including light gardening, weeding, litter picking, and outdoor cleaning, our gardening grounds work is covered by an external contract.
- Assist with the assembly, installation, or movement of furniture and equipment as needed.
- Conduct regular inspections of the facility to identify maintenance needs or potential safety hazards, reporting any issues to the HFO.
- Support with the cleaning and sanitisation of animal enclosures, storage rooms, and service areas as required.
- Assist with preparations for events or any special projects requiring manual labour or basic repairs.
- Assist with tasks that may come up in the two charity shops owned by the branch.
- Help maintain an inventory of tools and materials, ensuring supplies are in good working order and stocked as needed.
- Drive the centre vehicle when required to transfer/ collect goods or to travel to the charity shops.
Qualifications and Experience
- Previous experience in a maintenance or facilities role is desirable.
- Basic skills in plumbing, carpentry, painting, and electrical work.
- Physically fit and capable of undertaking tasks requiring lifting, bending, and manual handling.
- Self-motivated, flexible, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- A positive attitude and a commitment to the values of the RSPCA and animal welfare.
- Ability to follow health and safety protocols diligently.
- Driving licence
Working Hours
This is a part-time, flexible role, with 24 hours per week. Hours can be arranged across weekdays and weekends to support the operational needs of the centre.
