About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity to join our Gateshead team as a Community Coach, supporting people involved with the criminal justice system to build recovery, resilience and purpose.
As a Community Coach, you will work alongside individuals to identify their strengths, aspirations and goals. You will help people access a range of recovery opportunities, community activities, mutual aid groups and wider support networks that promote sustainable recovery and positive change.
The role is about more than providing support. It is about inspiring hope, building confidence and empowering people to take the next steps in their recovery journey.
You will work as part of a passionate and supportive team that believes in the power of lived experience, peer support and recovery communities to transform lives.

Person Specification
Essential Knowledge & Understanding
- Understanding of substance use, recovery and the challenges people may experience.
- Knowledge of 12-Step Fellowships, SMART Recovery and mutual aid approaches.
- Understanding of Recovery Capital and the CHIME model.
- Awareness of equality, diversity and inclusion principles.
- Understanding of social exclusion and the barriers faced by vulnerable individuals.
- Commitment to recovery-focused, strengths-based practice.
Essential Skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to engage, motivate and support others.
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
- Ability to facilitate groups and activities.
- Good IT and administration skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Compassionate, non-judgemental and person-centred approach.
Essential Qualifications
- Level 2 qualification in Health & Social Care, Coaching, Counselling or a related field, or willingness to achieve this within the first year of employment (full support provided by Recovery Connections).
Desirable Experience
- Experience leading groups or facilitating recovery-focused activities
- Experience providing one-to-one support or coaching.
- Experience of mutual aid participation or support.
- Personal or family experience of addiction and recovery.
- Experience working within criminal justice, recovery, health or social care settings.
Qualifications
Level 2 qualification in Health & Social Care, coaching, counselling (or willingness to complete within 12 months — fully funded)
