Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and adaptable Cover Supervisor to support classroom activities across various educational settings. The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with children and young people, including those with special educational needs. This role offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to a positive learning environment, fostering student development and behaviour management in the absence of the class teacher. Candidates should possess strong communication skills, patience, and a proactive approach to supporting diverse learners. We have one 30 hour role, and a second 32 hour role, for term time only.
Responsibilities
- Supervise classes in the absence of the regular teacher, ensuring continuity of learning activities
- Manage behaviour and maintain a positive classroom environment
- Support students with special educational needs, including those with autism or disabilities
- Assist with set tasks such as creative writing, tutoring, or mentoring activities
- Follow lesson plans provided by teachers where applicable or implement alternative activities to engage students
- Ensure health and safety protocols are adhered to at all times
- Foster inclusive participation among students and promote respectful behaviour
- Communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents when necessary
- Support students’ social and emotional development through encouragement and guidance
Experience
- Prior experience working with children or young people is highly desirable
- Experience with special education needs (SEN), including working with students with disabilities or autism, is advantageous
- Background in teaching, tutoring, mentoring, or creative writing can enhance effectiveness in this role
- Strong communication skills and the ability to adapt to different classroom environments are essential
- Experience in working with diverse groups of children and understanding their individual needs will be beneficial
