The Role
We’re looking for an experienced Import Customer Service Clerk to join our Import Operations team in Greenhithe.
This is a hands on role where you will take ownership of import shipments once cargo is in transit, managing each shipment through to final delivery and invoicing.
You will be the main point of contact for your customers throughout the import process, providing proactive updates and making sure shipments progress smoothly. You will work closely with shipping lines, suppliers and our internal teams to resolve issues, coordinate customs clearance and arrange final delivery.

What You'll Be Doing
- Taking ownership of sea freight import shipments once cargo is in transit
- Monitoring and tracking shipments and providing proactive updates to customers
- Acting as the main point of contact for customers throughout the import process
- Obtaining and checking documentation required for customs clearance
- Preparing and submitting clearance instructions to our in-house Customs Clearance team
- Liaising with customers, shipping lines, suppliers and internal departments
- Resolving operational issues as they arise
- Arranging final delivery following customs release
- Accruing shipment-related costs accurately within the operating system
- Raising final customer invoices and ensuring files are completed and closed promptly
- Ensuring company procedures and customs requirements are followed
We're looking for someone who has:
- Previous experience within sea freight import operations
You’ll also need:
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Good organisational and administrative skills
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Confidence managing a busy workload and prioritising effectively
- Good problem-solving skills
- Experience using Microsoft Office and freight management systems
- A proactive, customer-focused approach
- The ability to work well as part of a team
Desirable (but not essential):
- Knowledge of customs clearance procedures and Incoterms
