Job Summary
We are seeking a professional Class 1 HGV Driver to join our team on an ad hoc basis. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating large goods vehicles safely and efficiently, ensuring timely deliveries across various locations. This role offers flexibility and requires a driver with experience in commercial driving, particularly with flatbed vehicles, to support our logistics operations. The ideal applicant will demonstrate excellent driving skills, a strong safety record, and the ability to manage deliveries with professionalism and reliability.
Duties
- Operate Class 1 HGVs, including flatbed lorries, in compliance with all road safety and transportation regulations.
- Conduct daily vehicle inspections to ensure safety and roadworthiness before each journey.
- Plan and follow efficient delivery routes to meet scheduled timelines.
- Secure loads appropriately on flatbeds or other vehicle types to prevent movement during transit.
- Assist with loading and unloading goods at various sites, ensuring proper handling and safety procedures are followed.
- Maintain accurate delivery documentation and logs for each trip undertaken.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch teams regarding delivery schedules or any issues encountered during transit.
- Adhere strictly to health and safety standards, including compliance with legal driving hours and rest periods.
Skills
- Proven experience in commercial driving, particularly with flatbed vehicles or similar large goods vehicles.
- Strong knowledge of road safety regulations and best practices for HGV operation.
- Excellent driving skills with a clean licence for Class 1 HGVs.
- Ability to handle physical tasks such as securing loads on flatbeds safely.
- Good organisational skills to plan routes efficiently and manage delivery schedules effectively.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently under minimal supervision.
- Familiarity with delivery documentation and basic vehicle maintenance procedures is advantageous.
