Shubra Construction Ltd is looking for a practical and experienced freelance Construction Health & Safety Consultant to support our construction projects across Croydon and South London.
We work as a Principal Contractor on residential developments, new-build flats, conversions, refurbishments and smaller building projects.
The successful consultant will help us develop our company health and safety policies, establish consistent procedures across the business and ensure that these procedures are properly implemented on our construction sites.
This is not a paperwork-only role. We need someone who will visit our sites, work closely with our directors and site managers, identify risks and follow up until required actions are completed.
Key Responsibilities
Review our current company health and safety arrangements.
Prepare and update the company Health & Safety Policy.
Create standard health and safety procedures, forms, registers and checklists.
Establish clear health and safety responsibilities for directors, project managers, site managers and subcontractors.
Prepare or review Construction Phase Plans for individual projects.
Review subcontractor RAMS, competency records and insurance documents.
Carry out regular health and safety inspections across our sites.
Provide written inspection reports with photographs, actions, responsible persons and deadlines.
Follow up with site managers to ensure actions are completed.
Assist with site inductions, toolbox talks and safety briefings.
Advise on working at height, excavations, scaffolding, lifting operations, temporary works, fire safety, COSHH, PPE and site welfare.
Assist with accident, incident and near-miss investigations.
Advise the company on CDM Regulations 2015 and its responsibilities as Principal Contractor.
Help maintain a consistent health and safety filing and reporting system for all projects.
Provide practical telephone and email advice when required.
Essential Requirements
Previous experience in UK construction health and safety.
Experience supporting a Principal Contractor or construction company.
Good knowledge of CDM Regulations 2015.
Suitable health and safety qualification, preferably NEBOSH Construction.
Experience preparing Construction Phase Plans and reviewing RAMS.
Ability to carry out practical site inspections and communicate clearly with site teams.
Ability to produce clear reports and follow up outstanding actions.
Full UK driving licence and ability to travel between sites.
Own professional indemnity and public liability insurance.
Eligible to work on a self-employed or freelance basis in the UK.
Desirable Requirements
IOSH membership or equivalent professional membership.
Experience with residential new-build, conversion and refurbishment projects.
Experience developing company-wide health and safety management systems.
Experience supporting small or medium-sized construction contractors.
Working Arrangement
The initial appointment is expected to include:
A full review of the company’s existing health and safety arrangements.
Preparation or updating of company policies and procedures.
Creation of standard templates, registers and reporting systems.
Health and safety setup for individual construction projects.
Regular scheduled site inspections.
Ongoing advice and follow-up with site management.
The fee arrangement may include an initial setup fee, a fee for each new project and an ongoing monthly consultancy retainer.
Pay: £31,823.86-£62,261.74 per year
