teach195. is currently recruiting Cover Supervisors and Teaching Assistants to work within Secondary Schools across Oldham. We are supporting a number of schools with both short-term and long-term staffing requirements and are seeking adaptable education professionals who are comfortable working in a dual-role capacity.
This position offers a varied and rewarding opportunity to support schools as both a Cover Supervisor and Teaching Assistant, depending on the needs of the school. The successful candidate will be confident leading classes in the absence of teaching staff while also providing targeted support to students within the classroom.
The Role
As a Cover Supervisor and Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting teaching and learning across the school. Your responsibilities may vary from day to day, including supervising whole classes during teacher absences, supporting students on a one-to-one basis, working with small intervention groups and assisting teachers in delivering high-quality learning experiences.
This role is ideal for individuals considering a future career in teaching, experienced Teaching Assistants looking to broaden their experience, or Cover Supervisors seeking a more varied position within schools.
Key ResponsibilitiesCover Supervisor Duties
- Supervise classes during teacher absences using pre-planned lesson materials
- Ensure students remain on task and engaged with their learning
- Manage classroom behaviour effectively in line with school policies
- Maintain a positive and productive learning environment
- Provide feedback to teaching staff regarding lesson progress and student engagement
- Ensure lessons run smoothly and learning objectives are met
Teaching Assistant Duties
- Support students within lessons on a one-to-one basis, in small groups or across whole classes
- Assist teachers with lesson preparation and classroom activities
- Support pupils with additional learning, behavioural or emotional needs
- Encourage positive engagement, participation and progress
- Help maintain an inclusive and supportive classroom environment
- Work collaboratively with teaching staff and SEND teams where required
General Responsibilities
- Build positive relationships with students, staff and parents where appropriate
- Promote safeguarding and student welfare at all times
- Support the wider school community and contribute positively to school life
- Demonstrate professionalism, flexibility and excellent timekeeping
- Adapt to different departments, year groups and school settings
What We Are Looking For
- Experience working with young people in an educational, coaching, mentoring or youth work setting
- Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant, Cover Supervisor or similar role is desirable
- Strong communication and behaviour management skills
- Ability to confidently manage groups of students independently
- Flexible and adaptable approach to working across different roles and responsibilities
- Positive attitude and commitment to supporting student development
- Reliable, organised and professional approach to work
