Job Overview
We are seeking a Legal Bookkeeper to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the financial transactions of the firm, ensuring compliance with the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) Accounts Rules and maintaining accurate financial records of our client and office account. This role is vital to the smooth operation of our firm and supports the accounts department and fee earners.
Responsibilities
- Process all financial transactions accurately, including client payments, disbursements, and invoices.
- Ensure compliance with SRA Accounts Rules in all client and office account transactions.
- Monitor bank transactions.
- Manage petty cash and expense claims.
- Maintain precise records and financial processes of all transactions in accordance with legal and regulatory standards.
- Process supplier invoices and prepare payment runs
- Reconcile client and office accounts.
- Generate financial reports including cash flows, financial ledgers and balance sheets.
- Utilise accounting software (Insight) to maintain financial records.
- Assist fee earners and support staff with account queries (review completion statements etc).
- Provide support during audits by preparing necessary documentation and reports.
- Liaise with external accountants to produce financial statements.
Requirements
- Previous experience as a Legal Bookkeeping or in a similar role within a legal setting is essential.
- Strong knowledge and understanding of SRA Accounts Rules, accounting principles and practices and legal financial compliance.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g. Insight or similar) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- A good approach to problem-solving and the ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently.
We can be flexible with the part-time hours so long as there is a minimum of 20 hours during the normal working hours (9am-5pm). Please note that working from home is not an option as the position is entirely office based.
