Auction House Porter(Full-Time)
Location: Wooler Area
Salary: £25,000 per annum
Hours: Monday–Friday, 9:00am–5:00pm
(Plus one weekend in every five during auction events)
Railtons is looking for a reliable, hardworking, and practical Auction House Porter to support the smooth day-to-day running of our busy auction house.
This is a varied and active role, ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on work and being part of a team. You'll play an important part in handling, moving, and preparing antiques, furniture, and collectables throughout the auction process.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safely move, lift, and position furniture, antiques, and auction lots throughout the auction house
- Assist with unloading and receiving vendor deliveries
- Organise and maintain vendor stock areas, ensuring items are stored safely and efficiently
- Prepare auction rooms, viewing areas, and showroom displays ahead of sales and events
- Support the photography and cataloguing teams by transporting items to and from workstations
- Assist buyers and vendors with the collection of purchased goods
- Pack and prepare sold lots for customer collection where required
- Help manage storage areas to maximise space and maintain an efficient workflow
- Handle delicate, valuable, and unusual items with care and attention
- Maintain a clean, safe, and tidy working environment
- Work closely with colleagues to ensure auctions run smoothly from intake through to sale completion
Ideal Candidate:
- Is highly organised and able to manage multiple tasks efficiently
- Is comfortable moving furniture and heavier items safely
- Enjoys practical, hands-on work
- Can work well independently and as part of a team
- Is reliable, adaptable, and able to thrive in a busy environment
