Technical Solar Manager

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Technical Solar Manager to oversee the technical delivery of commercial solar PV projects. Based from our Preston office, this is a site-based role involving regular travel to commercial project locations. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting site surveys, managing technical aspects of installations, and ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out detailed site surveys for commercial solar PV installations.
- Assess site suitability, structural considerations, and electrical infrastructure.
- Produce technical reports, survey findings, and installation recommendations.
- Coordinate with design, engineering, and installation teams throughout project delivery.
- Manage project costs and monitor financial performance against budgets.
- Support commercial decision-making by reviewing project profitability and identifying cost-saving opportunities.
- Ensure compliance with health & safety regulations and industry standards.
- Liaise with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers to maintain strong working relationships.
- Provide technical guidance and resolve on-site issues efficiently.
- Conduct quality inspections and ensure installations meet required specifications.
Requirements
- Proven experience in commercial solar PV projects.
- Strong technical knowledge of solar design, installation, and commissioning.
- Experience carrying out site surveys and technical assessments.
- Good understanding of project finances, budgeting, and cost control.
- Knowledge of electrical regulations and renewable energy standards.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- Full UK driving licence.
Desirable Qualifications
- HNC/HND or Degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or a related discipline.
- Relevant electrical qualifications (18th Edition, ECS/CSCS, SMSTS or equivalent).
- Experience using solar design and project management software.
