POST: Associate Lecturer North West Region Ad Hoc
LOCATION: Liverpool based with regular travel to Cheshire Warrington and West Midlands delivery sites
CONTRACT: Ad Hoc Casual Contract
REPORTS TO: Regional Manager
About BioGrad Education
BioGrad Education is looking for an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Associate Lecturer to join our growing education team.
This role involves delivering practical molecular biology and mammalian cell culture training through engaging laboratory sessions while inspiring the next generation of scientists. Dedicated time is provided for CPD, conference attendance and research grant writing.
The Role
As an Associate Lecturer you will:
- Deliver practical teaching in Mammalian Cell Culture, ELISA, Western Blotting, PCR and Microbiology.
- Use a range of teaching methods including practical laboratory sessions, small group teaching and student-centred learning
Key Responsibilities
Teaching
- Deliver engaging practical laboratory teaching.
- Create an inclusive learning environment.
- Adapt teaching methods to different learning styles.
Student Support & Administration
- Assess student work in line with awarding body requirements.
- Provide formative and summative feedback.
- Provide pastoral support where appropriate.
- Support student interviews and admissions.
Curriculum Development & Quality Assurance
- Develop and update course materials and assessments.
- Ensure compliance with awarding body requirements.
- Review learner feedback to continually improve delivery.
- Attend standardisation and moderation meetings.
- Ensure laboratory equipment is prepared and fit for purpose.
External Engagement
- Deliver outreach lectures at schools and universities.
- Promote BioGrad Education courses.
Professional Development
- Attend CPD events and conferences.
- Contribute towards research and grant applications.
Health & Safety
- Prepare and review laboratory risk assessments.
- Promote safe laboratory working.
- Ensure health and safety training is completed.
Essential Criteria
Qualifications
- PhD (or working towards) in a relevant Biological Science.
- Strong understanding of scientific research.
Experience
- Minimum two years' experience in Molecular Biology, Immunology, Cell Biology or Microbiology.
- Experience in scientific project planning and development.
Skills
- Excellent communication skills.
- Strong organisational and planning skills.
- Ability to work independently and within a team.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Full UK driving licence and access to your own reliable vehicle (essential).
Desirable Criteria
- PGCE or equivalent teaching qualification.
- Previous lecturing or teaching experience.
- Experience in a regulated laboratory environment.
- Research & Development experience.
Driving Requirement (Essential)
Due to regular travel between BioGrad sites, schools, universities and partner venues across Liverpool and Lancashire, applicants must hold a full, valid UK driving licence and have access to their own reliable vehicle. Regular travel forms an essential part of this role.
Working Pattern
This role requires flexibility to work across scheduled teaching programmes, including occasional weekends and bank holidays.

Essential Application Interview
The post requires a flexible approach with availability to undertake teaching on an ad hoc basis and willingness to travel regularly between Liverpool, Cheshire, Warrington and West Midlands delivery locations. Working hours will vary according to teaching requirements and may include evenings weekends and bank holidays where required. Applicants must hold a full UK driving licence and have access to their own transport.
Pay: £17.58-£19.23 per hour
Work Location: Hybrid remote in Warrington (Cheshire, North West Region)
