We believe everyone in the world should have access to comfortable, desirable, and affordable prosthetic limbs. To achieve this goal, we design and make comfortable prosthetic limbs that fit like clothing, can be sent through the post, and cost less than a smartphone.
We are seeking a Product Design Engineer who will be responsible for the end-to-end design process, from concepts and rapid prototyping to user testing and manufacturing preparation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Rapid Prototyping: Utilise in-house tools - including 3D printers, CNC machines, and sewing/textile equipment - to build physical prototypes for design validation.
- CAD & Modeling: Create and optimising detailed 3D models
- Textile Goods Development: Collaborate on the design of textile interfaces, prioritising user comfort and anatomical fit.
- Human-Centred Testing: Assist in user testing with individuals with upper limb differences. Analysing qualitative and quantitative feedback to iterate design.
- Mechanical Analysis: Perform, analyse and report on physical and simulated mechanical tests on design components inline with specifications
- Design for Manufacturing (DFM): Optimise components for scalable manufacturing processes like injection moulding or high-yield 3D printing, and standardise textile patterns for production.
Qualifications, Technical & Design Skills:
To thrive in a role that blends mechanical engineering with textile goods design, we believe the role requires a degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Design Engineering or similar.
- Advanced CAD Proficiency: Experience with CAD software (SolidWorks preferred) including surface modeling, simulations and design for manufacture.
- Textiles / Wearables Experience: Practical knowledge of textile properties, pattern cutting, sewing, and designing products that interact directly with the human body (e.g, wearable tech, or performance sportswear).
- Additive Manufacturing: Hands-on experience with 3D printing technologies to rapidly iterate
- Mechanism Design: Experience designing locking mechanisms, quick-release systems, or modular joints
- Industrial Design: Expertise in choosing colours, materials and finishes to elevate the user experience
- Medical Device Standards: Familiarity with regulatory frameworks for medical devices
