Are you a natural salesperson who knows how to turn interest into action?
Do you build rapport quickly, listen carefully, spot buying signals and know when - and how - to ask for the sale?
We're looking for an experienced Sales Consultant to join us at KELLART, our Hackney Downs Art Gallery, selling contemporary art and bespoke picture framing.
This is a hands-on, customer-facing sales role for someone who is commercially minded, proactive, persistent and motivated by sales. You'll meet customers through pre-booked consultations and walk-ins, respond to incoming enquiries, follow up opportunities and proactively generate new business.

32 paid hours per week, with a 1-hour unpaid lunch break each day.
About Us
KELLART's story traces back to professional footballer Bobby Kellard, whose career on the pitch led to an unexpected passion for art. After retiring from football, Bobby became a collector and gallerist, opening his own gallery in Essex with a simple philosophy: if he didn't love it, he wouldn't sell it.
Today, Bobby's son, Brad Kellard, carries that legacy forward as founder of KELLART, championing emerging contemporary artists and connecting original art with new audiences.
Alongside KELLART.com, we operate TheFramers.co.uk, providing bespoke picture framing to customers.
The Opportunity
Based at our Hackney Downs Art Gallery, you'll sell across two main revenue streams:
- Contemporary art
- Bespoke picture framing
You'll meet customers who have booked art or framing consultations, welcome and sell to walk-in visitors and work with prospective customers by phone and email.
You'll work towards clear weekly and monthly KPIs and revenue targets, with plenty of scope to use your own initiative in how you reach them.
Ultimately, your job is simple: seize and create opportunities, convert them into sales and grow revenue.
Selling Contemporary Art
Great art sales aren't about delivering a rehearsed sales pitch. They're about people.
Whether someone has booked a consultation or simply walked through the gallery door, you'll understand what they're drawn to, ask the right questions and listen carefully.
You'll bring the story behind the artist and artwork to life, help customers visualise a piece in their own home and confidently guide them towards making a decision.
And when the moment is right, you'll ask for the sale.
Selling Bespoke Framing
You'll also meet customers looking for bespoke framing, both through booked consultations and walk-ins.
You'll understand what they're looking to frame, recommend appropriate framing options, provide pricing and confidently turn consultations into orders.
Many framing opportunities also begin online. You'll respond quickly to enquiries, speak directly with prospective customers and encourage them to book a consultation at the gallery.
You'll also recognise the wider opportunity. Someone trusting us to frame something important to them is entering our wider world of art and interiors. You'll look for natural opportunities to introduce them to KELLART, show them artwork that suits their taste or invite them to an upcoming event.
You'll Create Sales - Not Just Wait for Them
You'll have booked appointments, walk-in customers and inbound enquiries, but successful salespeople don't simply wait for the next opportunity to arrive.
If the gallery is quiet or the pipeline needs strengthening, you'll do something about it.
That could mean re-engaging previous prospects and customers, proactive telephone and email outreach, developing local partnerships, networking or helping create sales events that bring new customers into the gallery.
You'll keep your pipeline organised, maintain accurate CRM notes and make sure opportunities are followed up consistently.
We want someone who naturally thinks: What can I do today that will generate a sale?
What You'll Be Responsible For
- Achieving weekly and monthly sales targets
- Hosting booked art and framing consultations at our Hackney Downs gallery
- Welcoming walk-in visitors and identifying sales opportunities

- Re-engaging previous prospects and customers
- Following up customers who don't purchase during their first visit
- Growing repeat and cross-brand sales
- Supporting revenue-generating gallery events
- Maintaining an active sales pipeline and accurate CRM records
- Continually looking for new ways to generate sales
The Person We're Looking For
You'll already be an experienced salesperson and genuinely enjoy selling. Targets motivate rather than intimidate you, and you're comfortable being personally accountable for your own sales performance.
You'll have:
- A proven track record in sales
- Strong closing ability
- Confidence selling face-to-face
- Excellent verbal and written communication
- Natural confidence approaching and speaking with different types of people
- Excellent listening and questioning skills
- The ability to build trust and rapport quickly
- The ability to recognise buying signals and act on them
- Persistence and resilience
- Confidence discussing price and asking for payment
- Strong follow-up habits
- Commercial awareness and initiative
- Excellent organisation and time management
- The ability to prioritise activity that generates sales
- Confidence working independently and taking responsibility for your results
Experience selling art or framing would be useful, but sales ability matters more to us than industry experience.
We can teach you about our artists, artwork, framing services and brands. What we're looking for is someone who already has the sales instinct to start conversations, uncover what people really want, build desire and confidently close.
Uncapped Earning Potential
You'll benefit from an uncapped commission structure linked to your sales performance above the required monthly threshold.
There is no ceiling on commission. The more you sell, the more you can earn.
If you're a natural salesperson who can turn a gallery visitor into a customer, sees an opportunity and acts on it, picks up the phone rather than waiting for another enquiry, follows up when others would give up and gets genuine satisfaction from beating a target, we'd like to hear from you.
Pay: From £25,000.00 per year
Application question(s):

- What attracts you to working in an art gallery, and how would you engage visitors who know little about art?
