Service Support Technician
Digital and Technology Services – Mid Sussex District Council
Are you passionate about technology and delivering outstanding customer service? Do you enjoy solving problems, helping people, and learning new technologies? If so, we'd love to hear from you.
We're looking for two Service Support Technicians to join our Digital and Technology Operations Team on an initial six-month secondment. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working at the heart of IT support, providing first-line technical assistance while helping colleagues make the most of technology.
About the role
As a Service Support Technician, you'll be one of the first points of contact for technology support across the Council. You'll help colleagues resolve a wide range of hardware, software and business system issues, while contributing to the delivery of reliable, modern and user-focused digital services.
Your work will include:
- Providing first-line helpdesk support and excellent customer service.
- Diagnosing and resolving hardware and software issues.
- Supporting Microsoft 365, Active Directory, email systems and cloud-based applications.
- Preparing and configuring laptops, mobile devices and other equipment.
- Maintaining knowledge articles, technical documentation and asset records.
- Supporting meeting room technology, printers and other workplace systems.
- Working with colleagues and suppliers to improve services and deliver technology projects.
- Helping users adopt new systems and ways of working.
About you
We're looking for someone who is customer-focused, enthusiastic and keen to develop their technical skills.
You'll ideally have:
- Experience in an IT support, service desk or similar technical support role.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Good knowledge of Microsoft technologies, including Microsoft 365.
- Experience supporting PC hardware, mobile devices and business applications.
- Excellent communication skills and a genuine desire to help others.
- The ability to understand user needs and translate them into practical technical solutions.
Local government experience is welcome but not essential. What's most important is your attitude, willingness to learn and commitment to delivering excellent service.
Why join us?
At Mid Sussex District Council, you'll be part of a supportive team helping to deliver technology services that make a real difference to our colleagues and communities. You'll gain experience across a broad range of technologies while working in an environment that encourages learning, collaboration and continuous improvement.
