Job Overview:
We are looking for a dedicated and responsible Class 1/ 2 Driver to operate a variety of vehicles including Refuse Collection Vehicles (RCVs), RoRo (Roll-on/Roll-off) containers, Tippersand Skip Wagons. The ideal candidate will be experienced in driving and handling these specific types of vehicles while ensuring safety, efficiency, and excellent customer service. This role requires the ability to perform waste collection, transportation, and disposal tasks while following all safety regulations and company protocols.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safe and Efficient Operation of Vehicles: Operate RCVs, RoRo containers, and Skip Wagons to collect and transport waste, recyclables, and other materials to designated disposal or recycling sites.
- Loading and Unloading: Safely load and unload waste or containers. Ensure proper securing of loads and take necessary precautions to prevent spillage or damage during transit.
- Vehicle Maintenance: Perform daily checks of the vehicle’s condition, including inspecting hydraulic systems, brakes, tires, and the operational components specific to RCVs, RoRo, Tippers and Skip Wagons. Report any maintenance issues immediately.
- Route Planning and Navigation: Follow assigned collection routes, ensuring timely collection and disposal. Adjust routes based on traffic, construction, or other real-time issues.
- Customer Interaction: Communicate professionally with customers or clients, ensuring proper placement of skips or containers and resolving any concerns or complaints regarding collections.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols and traffic laws, ensuring safe operation of vehicles. Follow company policies and local regulations related to waste handling, disposal, and environmental protection.
- Documentation: Complete daily logs and reports for deliveries, collections, and vehicle inspections. Record any incidents, delays, or maintenance needs as required.
- Waste Management: Ensure proper segregation of waste materials (if applicable) and compliance with recycling guidelines, ensuring environmental standards are met.
- Load Weight Compliance: Ensure that vehicles are not overloaded and comply with weight limits, adjusting collections as necessary to stay within legal parameters.
Requirements:
- License: Valid Class 2 driver's license with the necessary endorsements for operating RCVs, RoRo containers, and Skip Wagons.
- Experience: Proven experience in operating RCVs, RoRo vehicles Tippers, or Skip Wagons (preferred, but will consider training the right candidate).
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and move heavy objects, operate hydraulic systems, and manage manual tasks involved in loading/unloading waste.
- Attention to Detail: Ensure proper collection and disposal practices are followed, paying attention to safety and waste management guidelines.
- Customer Service Skills: Strong interpersonal skills to interact with customers in a professional, courteous manner.
- Reliability and Punctuality: Demonstrated ability to adhere to schedules, arrive on time, and complete tasks efficiently.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Waste Management Equipment: Experience operating or handling waste management equipment like compaction systems, hydraulic lifts, and containerized waste systems.
- Clean Driving Record: No history of major traffic violations or accidents.
- Additional Certifications: Any waste management or environmental safety certifications are a plus (e.g., CPC, environmental health & safety training).
