ESCP Business School was founded in 1819. The School has chosen to teach responsible leadership, open to the world and based on European multiculturalism. Six campuses in Berlin, London, Madrid, Paris, Turin and Warsaw are the stepping stones that allow students to experience this European approach to management.
Each year, ESCP welcomes 9000+ students and 5000 managers from 130 different nationalities. We offer a full range of full-time degree programmes from our generalist BSc in Management, Master in Management, and MBA in International Management to a portfolio of over 20 specialist Master-level programmes, including our MSc in Finance, and to PhD. We also deliver executive education programmes including the Executive MBA, specialist Master-level executive degree programmes, and Executive PhD.
ESCP contributes to the learning and development of executives and managers at some of the world’s leading companies through the development and provision of customised courses.
The Performance Measurement & Management (PMM) Department at ESCP Business School invites applications for the position of Assistant or Associate Professor in Management Accounting & Control, to join our London campus, with an anticipated start date of January 2027.
This position supports a balanced development of research and teaching. Faculty are expected to contribute to the school’s academic life, including academic directorship roles over time. The school provides a competitive annual research budget, complemented by additional internal funding, to support high-quality, internationally competitive research.
The PMM Department comprises 13 full-time faculty members specialising in performance measurement and management across organisations and society. Our research adopts organisational and sociological perspectives to critically examine management control practices across private, public, and alternative organisational settings (e.g., NGOs, cooperatives). We embrace methodological pluralism and focus on topics such as:
Performance measurement across financial, operational, sustainability, and social dimensions,
Management control systems (e.g., KPIs, incentives, dashboards) and supporting digital technologies (e.g., AI, ERPs),
The societal and organisational implications of performance quantification.
Teaching approaches that are case-based, research-based and project-based are highly valued, as they encourage reflexivity. We teach management accounting and control tools, as well as the ability to critically reflect on them (question their design, use, and effects). Since the notion of ‘best practices’ can itself be questioned, we aim to open the black box of performance measures to reveal their inner workings, underlying assumptions, biases and potential implications. We believe that this approach is important for generating more sustainable management practices.
