Overview
Holcombe Guest House is a VisitEngland 4-Star Silver Award property operating across two adjacent premises on Victoria Road, Barnetby-le-Wold. We are seeking a Cleaner (Hotel Housekeeping) to service guest bedrooms and bathrooms to a consistent four-star standard.
The role combines cleaning with presentation. A room that is clean but poorly presented does not meet the standard we require, and the successful candidate will take real pride in how a room looks at the moment a guest first walks in.
Full training is provided in our room standards. Previous hotel or housekeeping experience is welcome but not essential. This is a permanent, part-time position with daytime hours only — no evening or overnight work.
Duties
- Service departure rooms to full checkout standard and stayover rooms to daily service standard, working to the room list issued each shift.
- Clean bathrooms throughout, including sanitary ware, tiling, mirrors, glass and chrome, finishing all surfaces free of marks, smears and limescale.
- Strip, change and make beds to the Company standard, ensuring linen is clean, unmarked, correctly sized and crisply finished.
- Vacuum, dust and clean all surfaces, skirtings, ledges, light fittings, and behind and beneath furniture.
- Set each room to the agreed presentation standard — including the position of furniture, chairs, bedside items, lamps and window dressings — so that it appears identical every time a guest enters.
- Finish beds with pillows plumped and evenly set, bedding square, and covers straight and free of creases.
- Fold and present towels to the agreed standard, and arrange bathroom amenities and toiletries neatly and consistently.
- Replenish all guest supplies to full complement, including tea and coffee tray items, glassware, guest information and stationery.
- Ensure curtains, blinds and windows are correctly dressed, glass is clean, lighting is set appropriately, and rooms are ventilated and fresh for arrival.
- Check that remote controls, hairdryers and in-room equipment are present, clean and in working order.
- Carry out a final inspection of every room before releasing it for occupancy, and confirm the room as ready to the Guest House Manager.
- Report maintenance defects, damage and safety concerns promptly, and flag any room that cannot be released to standard.
- Handle lost property and guest belongings strictly in accordance with Company procedure.
- Maintain the cleanliness and presentation of corridors, stairways, guest lounges, the breakfast room and other communal areas.
- Manage laundry, linen stock and cleaning consumables economically, and keep the housekeeping trolley, store and equipment clean and orderly.
- Follow safe systems of work and comply with the Company's Code of Conduct, Ethical Policy, and Health & Safety and Fire Safety procedures.
- Assist with external upkeep and breakfast service as required.
Skills
- Reliability and punctuality, with a dependable means of travelling to the premises for an 08:00 start.
- A high standard of attention to detail, and pride in the presentation of finished work.
- The ability to work to a consistent standard without direct supervision, and to manage a room list within the time available.
- Integrity and discretion, appropriate to unsupervised access to guest rooms and guest property.
- A courteous and professional manner with guests and colleagues.
- Availability to work weekends and bank holidays on a rota basis, across both premises.
- The right to work in the United Kingdom.
- Previous experience as a room attendant, or in hotel, guest house, housekeeping, cleaning or care work, is desirable but not essential.
- Awareness of COSHH and basic food hygiene is desirable.
The role is physically active, involving sustained standing and walking, stairs at both premises, handling bed linen, and operating cleaning equipment and a housekeeping trolley. Applicants who wish to discuss reasonable adjustments are encouraged to do so at any stage; this will not disadvantage an application.
